Former child star Gary Coleman, who shot to fame on television sitcom Diff'rent Strokes but suffered personal and financial woes as an adult, has died in a Utah hospital after being taken off life support, according to media reports today.
Celebrity website RadarOnline.com said Coleman, 42, was taken off life support today, and similar reports were filed by showbiz site TMZ.com and by CNN, citing a spokeswoman at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah.
The spokeswoman, who earlier issued a statement saying the actor had been put on life support following a brain haemorrhage this week, was not immediately available for confirmation.
TMZ.com said the actor's wife Shannon made the decision to take her husband off life support, and he died at 7.05pm (Irish time).
The diminutive Coleman, who suffered from a congenital kidney disease that halted his growth, was hospitalized after suffering an intracranial haemorrhage Wednesday night at his home in Santaquin, Utah.
The following day he was "conscious and lucid" in the morning, but in the afternoon his condition worsened, he slipped into unconsciousness and was placed on life support.
"We are saddened to announce that since mid-afternoon, Mountain Time, on May 27, 2010, Mr Coleman has been unconscious and on life support," his manager John Alcantar said in the statement released this morning by the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Mr Alcantar was not immediately available.
Coleman gained fame as the sharp-talking, adopted son Arnold Jackson of a wealthy New Yorker in the hit sitcom Diff'rent Strokes , which aired on US television from 1978 to 1986. His famous line, "What you talkin' 'bout Willis?" when talking to his brother, became a pop culture catchphrase.
R.I.P Mr. Coleman, I am thinking of his family and their loss. A sad passing, and so young.
Glad someone else started a thread. Mine has slipped down the stacks I see.
Rest in Peace so young, Gary Coleman. only 42.

I missed that one Faybe. I have been a bit busy today.
RIP Gary, I remember watching those shows when I was growing up.
He shares his day of passing with Mrs Edith Snicklegruber 82 of Wellington - A 6'9" grandma who spent her life petitioning against domestic violence. 40 years his senior and no less important as Coleman had a reputation for domestic assault.
With Mrs. Snicklegruber being 6'9" and Coleman at 4'0" tall... I guess that's the Long and the Short of it today!
With respect and love,.. this was a funny man who had some difficult moments in his life.
With respect and love.... that was No excuse for violence against women.... Is It?
While i agree that violence against women is wrong being a woman who's suffered that before in my past relationship, i've found that most short men have hang ups about their height so use that as an excuse to lash out and hurt those around them who don't share their height problems. And NO it's not an excuse for him at all only my opinion.
Maybe he can find some much needed peace now.
Pearldiver - Gary was one of the greatest comedy personalities ever - its a sad day - RIP to one of the greatest of all times
What you're talking about Willis?!!!!
May his soul finds repent, forgiveness and peace.
RIP little man - you were great and you will always be great - Irish

Your at a hospital for surgery signing a waiver that reads: while under anesthesia you may fall into a coma, die, or be used as temporary life support. Knowing the chances are slim and that the surgery is performed often without mishaps, you sign and proceed.Waking up the next day you find yourself...
