how many tags are too many ?

   i need to know how many tags you guys attach to your hubs , i know at least two , but is there an average number of tags to make the hubs attract more traffic ?

      A good number is 10 to 15, but the real answer is - as many as you can find that are relevant to your subject.
      
      You'll see that HubPages suggests some tags, but they're just auto-created from your text and sometimes, they're not really related to your subject - so ignore those and add your own.

      Paradigmsearch, if you've added so many tags that you hit the limit, it's almost certain that some of them are barely relevant to your topic.  Unless it's a very unusual subject.

         It also depends on the amount of content in the hub.  An in-depth hub of 1500 words justifies more tags than a 500-word hub.  For the former, I can see up to 40 (in some cases, perhaps more) could be relevant, but in the case of the latter, I wouldn't use more than a dozen or so.

               I always use more than 4, but rarely have more than 20 even in longer hubs. I would go with Maddie Rudd's advice since she is a HubPages staff member.
               Marissa's advice is also relevant-- especially about careful consideration of the automatically generated "suggested tags". I  always leave at least half of those unused.

                  I use some of the suggested tags, and check hub metrics Keywords [after a while] to see if they are used. often they are. it depends.

               Where on earth did you get that idea?
               
               I just noticed your Hubs are very short, so you may find you're limited in how many tags you can use.  Actually most of them are too short compared to the average Hub.   Personally I'd be combining some of them, you'll find you'll do much better.

   Yep, I used to think 15-20 was enough, but I have seen high ranking, high traffic Hubs with 40 tags.
   But, I have also seen high ranking, high traffic Hubs with 5 to 10 tags.

   I was always told, that when creating a web page for seo purposes that the optimal number of tags (keywords)for each page should be around 3-5, but be very specific researched keywords to the topic written about.

      Remember, most of the advice you read is relevant to websites, and isn't always as relevant to HubPages.
      
      A Hub is a lot longer than a blog post, so as Maddie said, more tags are appropriate.

   I put as many of them as the system can take without a complaint. Once it starts complaining, I get rid of a couple of the least relevant ones.
