okay I've looked everywhere and can't find a definitive answer for the maximum allowable words per hub, anyone know?
don't know BB....might lose the reader if it's too long anyway...why, you gonna write a book?
I'm doing a hub that will target a small niche from the industry I have the most experience in. What I'm putting together does not exist for free anywhere that I've ever seen. A tad under halfway done and sitting at 1985 words already.
My goal though is to provide all pertinent information in one spot and of course offering many links to services for every aspect, some links from affiliate programs.
It could very easily end up being upwards of 5000 words, and if split into separate hubs would take away the one stop feature.
I thought about doing an ebook but by giving it away for free would not have revenue potential as I have no website on the topic nor care to have one at this moment.
Hey BenjaminB there have been a few discussions on 5000 word hubs if you do a search for "5000 words" in the forums tab you can read some of the opinions but as far as the MAX there probably isn't one. Interesting that you are researching this tho. You are quite a good writer and the time spent writing such an extensive project may be more beneficial in other areas of the web. I'll be watching to see how you make out. Later Bro
Maximum amount of words is very subjective. I haven't seen an actual limit as far as maximum allowable words, either, and I have only gotten flagged for 'substandard' which is not enough words while in editing/unpublished mode.
If you want to bring in readers that will also bring in revenue, you might want a maximum of 1500. I always end up being too wordy and getting up to 1900, which seems to do well for me (sometimes). The minimum amount would be 500.
If you want to just write for the hell of it, there is no limit.
Oh for those who find it in the niche I'm targeting they will feel inclined to read it all if they are serious about gaining knowledge important to their success.
This will not be a hub that I expect anyone else to be interested in reading.
Another thing about the long length is that in the intro I specifically explain why it will be so long and invite them to bookmark it,which would only mean the possibility of it being distributed around and gaining me great organic back links.
Well, what I would do is separate it into series of hubs instead of one whole hub. That's just me. Mainly, my logic is that if I were to read something, I need to read something that is sectioned (like chapters) and has a good flow to it. If it is too long, even while informative, I want the option of clicking over to the next series in the hub when I'm ready. You know? It seems too much on the eyes and too cluttered if it gets put all into one place like that, if it is way too long.
But I will admit that I have read some hubbers who write very long hubs and have definitely kept my attention. I think it is all in how it is written and how it is formatted. You probably could pull that off. Best of luck to you, man.
Ultimately Sunny I have decided to split it up into 3 hubs. My only reasoning behind this being that the way i am splitting them up they could each stand on their own in the search engine rankings.
Then of course all linked together in a series.
Thanks for your input
I hope I haven't discouraged you from your original views on what you wanted to write! Many readers are different, many writers are different.
Looking forward to your hubs.
No I was looking to get some thoughts on the subject from some people that have been Hubbing longer, and that's what I got.
I also went and looked at other forums from the past and read a lot of opinions on it too as well as receiving Hub Pages opinion on it.
I feel it will work out well having split it the way I did which still has 3 large Hubs with the first being the largest and moving down to the 3rd being the smallest.

On another thread, a Hubber suggested that if HubPages had a minimum word count, it would prevent some spammers.I know that a very low word count can get a Hub flagged as substandard, but perhaps it's set too low at the moment?

what text actually counts towards your hub's word count? I know the words in the text capsule count, but how about rss feeds, news, links, polls, etc.? Is this text included in the word count?

I understand the check boxes at the top of the Hub templates are just suggestions but have been making my Hubs at least 1200 words as I am under the impression that this is the value for the Google algorithm. I could submit a far larger number of Hubs if I were to lower the word count to 1000...

I am new here and just joined a few days back. I was wondering if there is a minimum or maximum word count limit on hub pages. I also wanted to know what these insert custom character, superscript and subscript links in the text capsule mean?I hope someone out there can help me. Thanks,Roohi

I am writing a piece now, that is currently 3000 words, and still rising; as things stand it appears that it will be around 4000 words. In the past I have written two part articles on HP and they tend not to fly, so I don't want to divide it in two. It would be okay to split it in two and move it...
