"No, I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is one nation under God."

George W. Bush did NOT make that comment.  His father George H.W. Bush allegedly made that comment in 1987 when he was Vice President.

The Atheist contend that they are in majority in America; how was he elected President despite his above statement?

I think Americans at heart are religious people. Am I correct?

I love America; the country and the people. Shouldn't I?

Because religious sentiment was the least of our worries here in the US in 1988.  Go back and take a look at the candidates and their platforms from the 88' election.  Michael Dukakis ran a crappy campaign on issues that were not popular back then.  Patriotism ran high then and Dukakis opposed the simplest form, the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, which has been an American tradition since 1892, because of 2 words in the pledge, "under God."

Show me where atheists contend a majority here in America. Reality is that 8-10% of Americans are atheist. Gallup Poll

They, the Atheists Skeptics Agnostics, claim here this in these forums; I don't think they are in majority anywhere in the world.

Due to the general human progress in the present era in science and technology; the people in West now don't subscribe to the notions of Jesus being god or son of god or trinity or Jesus ascending to the skies; while these were never truly the creeds propounded by Jesus; hence the people in the West have discarded these mythical notions; yet they believe in Jesus and Mary and subscribe to the religions; they are not Atheists Skeptics Agnostics.

I agree with your above argument.

I will have to defer to Mark Knowles on this question.

That would be interesting...having the Presidents swear in with their hand on the Constitution instead of the Bible.  Bet they would say it is Unconstitutional to swear their allegiance to the Constitution.
