5 months 35 hubs 2200 views 6 followers, that's my current situation at hubpages. I wonder why so few people follow me.

Followers are not where earnings is built. Keep writing, keep reading other people's hubs and commenting. You'll have no problem getting followers.

Engage more in the forums is another way.

But, seriously, I wouldn't worry about it. smile

Hey there, nice to meet you. Im sorry your not getting many followers, I can't speak for how things work, but I can tell you how I find people to follow. I find them either thru the forums, someone says something that interests me so I check them out. Or someone leaves a comment on one of my hubs so I go over to see who they are and if I like what I read I'll follow them. Or, thier hub is listed in the related hubs section of a hub Ive already read. SOOOO I guess if other people are like me, you could get more followers by  being more active so as to be noticed. This is a HUGE site with lots of people. Followers dont really impact your potential to earn money tho.

No, they don't, but some followers do help spread the word about you, so the more REAL followers you have (people who actually read some of what you write), the more chance that one of them will Tweet or Facebook something of yours or even link to it from their own blog or website.

Yeah, I know: probably 96% of the self absorbed people here would never even consider doing that. But some of us do, so the more you have, the more chance to get one of us who will promote others content when we really like it.  I probably do that at least a few times a month.  Get a few hundred like me (yeah, that might take a LOT of followers) and you could be getting organic links fairly often.

As others have indicated, I tend to consider following people because they said something interesting in a forum or a comment at one of my hubs or at one of the hubbers that I follow and read.  That initial interest brings me to check out a few of their hubs; if I'm still interested,  I'll follow them.  And as I said, if I come across something really special, I tell other people about it.

Since you posted this here, I assume you want some honest feedback.   I try to tell it the way I see it, keep in mind, I do not see myself as an expert but I am full of opinions.  So here goes:

Melancholy means sad, gloomy or depressed.   I really can't see myself following such a dismal name.
