Why would my views triple over one day, then drop back down to normal?

Did you look to see which hub(s) got the hits and from where?

You were loved. And now you’re not. smile

Seriously, someone probably posted an organic link which can result in a sudden, but usually short flurry.

That depends, there can be other explanations.

If she turns round and says it came from search engines, then I have numerous possible theories.

If it is internal to Hubpages I have theories too.

But a post on a forum or something is a good bet too.

There is one hub whose views are ridiculously high for the last seven days.  Not a how to or a real product related one either.

And where is the traffic coming from, when you look at the traffic sources?

Bizarre, but it's facebook.  And paradigm, that's the story of my life! smile

It has been shared on Facebook then, you can see how many facebook likes it has at the top of each hubpage. I get flurries from facebook too.

Same thing happened to me...I got almost 4000 likes on an article and it shot way up, it's still doing well.  Someone must have posted it on their facebook and it took off.  Enjoy it!

I shared it on Facebook two months ago.

Well, someone ELSE shared it on facebook this time.

Ryan, you're right.  I got a 174 "likes" on Facebook for that hub!

Of course, it would be the only hub I have that's remotely bordering on pornographic...lol!

DIY, I had the same thing happen for the last couple of days (several hundred sudden views on a "quiet" hub).  It's happened before, too, and the views come from Facebook.  Since I do no marketing for myself at all, I'm assuming someone else has been pushing the article...?

Yes, I just found it on Facebook.  The admin for the site had posted my hub and it got a ton of comments...cult following kind of thing.  No wonder I saw my Adsense jump up that day!

And by the way, I posted one on Facebook of yours one time...is that legal?

Are you talking to me?  If it was just a link, then I thank you.  I'm hoping you don't mean the whole article?

Sorry, yes Shogan, I was talking to you.  I posted the link to your children's lit one.  Hope that's OK.  I work with children's programs and so do alot of my friends and I particularly liked the article and wanted to share it.

You're a Jane-of-all-trades, huh?  No, of course a link is fine.
By the way, my latest Facebook flare-up has died down.  It's strange, having no idea why traffic has bumped so dramatically and then fallen again.

Shogan, my five minutes of fame are gone, too, but it was fun while it lasted!  Now even my author score is dropping!

You know what's interesting, as a side note to your comment, is I did a little weeding of tags on my hubs and my HubKarma score went up 6 points...?  I know it can't be because of adding more links, because I haven't added any.

  12. DIYweddingplanner profile image76
    DIYweddingplannerposted 13 years ago

You took AWAY tags and your hubkarma went up?  That makes no sense to me!

shoganposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Yeah, between this and that other thread I posted...I seem to attract some strange events.  I added no more links.  I simply edited and changed some tags (streamlined them, really), and HubKarma went noticeably up.  I thought HubKarma was only related to # of links?

Me, too.  We should stop trying to understand what goes on with the scores, seems to be no rhyme or reason.  Maybe we should just give it up, ignore all that stuff and just write!

Eh...I'm at a standstill.  I'm having a hard time getting the right motivation to write hubs.

I'm having enough trouble keeping up with the ones I have, tweaking, trying to breathe life into flagging ones!
