I have been involved in the hospitality trade for nine years and feel i have gained a lot of knowledge and experience on the topics of cocktails, wine and food.

Which of these would be the best to begin creating a series of quality Hubs?

There are always trends in those areas. Find out what is hot. Write about it before anyone else does!

I think wine is a popular topic, although you could do some research and find out what key words are the most popular right now.  Just enter "most popular key words" in your search engine and you'll find multiple sites of lists.  I started zeroing in on some of them after realizing it may help with my ratings.

@SusieQ42 - Wine is a hugely expanding market and more and more people are interested in learning about different types, grapes and the viticulture associated with different regions. I am 3hrs from the established Margaret River wine region in West Australia and will travel soon to get gather some information. Keyword research and get started! Thank you

I would say that you would have somewhat of a niche to write in. The question is how much competition and searching is out there for it.

    (a) Do keyword research on your topics, find keywords that people are searching for with regards to your topics.
    (b) Don't restrict yourself to writing about one of the topics you stated above, but write about all of them- hospitality, wine, food and whatever else is related.
    (c) Don't forget to promote your hubs, by writing short articles on other places, so you can get more views and backlinks for your hubs.

    I hope that helps. smile

@Cagsil - This is excellent advice! I always find keyword research a chore but necessary and important. I plan on creating websites for selling products relating to these topics eventually but think a series of Hubs might get me some followers first while i work on content and design. I was a chef for five years, my uncle and cousin are exceptional master patisseries, i have many years of cocktail experience and a love of wine. So quality content should not be hard for me to come by.  Do what you are passionate about and it never feels like work!

Q: On the topic of promoting Hubs on other sites.
Do you mean Squiddo, Blogger and a WP site?
And if so, do i create similar content on similar topics and link through or how does one go about successful promotion by the means you suggest?

Thank you for your thoughtful reply, it was very helpful.

Yes, those site would work. Plus, I'm sure there are others, however, at present I am not personally using them.

The object is to create a "wheel" of sorts. All the sites should directly point back to not only your hubs, but other locations.

Example: You write one hub, then link from a blog back to it. If you use Squidoo, then the blog should also point to it as well. Your Squidoo can point back to your written hub, but should not point to your blog.

It's about creating one-way links, because they are supposed to be more value. Whichever you want to create more traffic for is the one you point back to.

If you want your blog or WP site, to gain more traffic, then you create one-way links back to it from different locations.

If you want your hubs, to gain more traffic, then you create one-way links back to them, from different locations.

Try not to create two-way links. wink

At least in my part of the woods your topics are of interest and probably in a niche market. Write about each of them and also do some reviews perhaps of brands, and locations which according to HubPages staff, are hot topics....cool

BTW Cagsil's advice is sound, follow it  wink

@LuisEGonzales - Good to hear that these topics are of interest in your area. I am going to begin writing Hubs in these niches soon.
I like the idea of reviewing brands. Never really thought of that route.
Cagsil's advice is sound you are right there!
      Thank you

It sounds good, but before writing on alcohol related things you need to read up about HubPages stance there.

If I remember correctly, you may provide recipes for alcoholic drinks, but may not promote sales of anything alcoholic.  Better read up and double check though - such things are on googles banned and list and therefore on HP's as well.

@janderson99 - It is useful but messy. None of the links seem to work through the site?!

@wilderness - Your information is very helpful for me. Not that i would have tried to sell alcoholic beverages but i was unaware of such rules so it is always good to know. Recipes, pictures and videos only. Thank you
