The poor, mentally ill and handicap are required to be drug tested before and after recieving public monthly stipens of a few hundred dollars. Should not city council all the way up to the president also be drug tested? These Public Administration jobs are paid with public monies 6 figures salaries, with 6and7 figure retirement plans. The poor and underclass drug problems could be caused by chemically depended public administractors and law makers.
Why waste tax money on wasted tax money?
Just quit drug testing everyone. Quit the welfare, too.
"Because one thing is dumb, we should force more people to do dumb things!"
..no..
Where are the opinated on this conservative question? welfare for all practical purposes has quit as far as the public in concern. Corporate welfare and tax breaks grew as public welfare and jobs was eliminated by conservatives. So you all will be mum on this question, huh? Nobody thinks our leaders should be drug free, just the underclass should be denied drugs, huh?
Well in Indiana this legislation was added to the drug testing one and gee, it was defeated, even by the very person who initiated the new law. Is there Something those politicians care to tell us? As the way the economy is going, one day, even the rich will detest their money because soon there will be Nothing to buy with it, as it will be worthless,of their own making. An old saying goes: "The elite of the world decided the tillers of the soil didn't need anything so they choked the tillers out of society. Soon there was no one to till the soil. When the elite grew hungry and realized They had to till the soil now, they thought: 'maybe, we should have thought the previous decisions over a bit more.' LOL Ya think? Great question.
City council members all the way up to the president should indeed be randomly drug tested each month--absolutely. Just ask those who've worked as White House student interns about the need. A lot of things should be done. These people should work sober but it's been a long time since many have, which explains a lot.
I agree with Even that drug testing is a waste of money, whether for welfare recipients or for elected officials. However, if Congress is going to waste time and money with legislation for drug testing for the poor, then I say make sure that same legislation applies to them. It's a sure way to kill it.
As long as laws are only voted on by the legislation and citizens are not allowed to vote on drug testing on public officials it will never happen.
Term limits are the answer but they will never agree to put that on the ballot either.
Personally, I don't really see the point of drug testing higher office-holders. Sure maybe city council and low-scale offices just because those are easiest to get into, but higher-offices... nah.
People on welfare are drug tested to make sure that they're not burnouts just taking handouts. People in offices are doing their jobs -- whether they suck at their job or not is the question with them. Toss 'em if they do. Drug testing them would just be stupid I think.
Edit: Drug-wise I was specifically speaking about weed, which I imagine is going to be legalized eventually anyway. Harder drugs though, like heroine and whatnot, obviously ANYBODY should be penalized for using, even office holders, high or low.
This Nation would have more equality and Justice if all Government officials were held accountable to follow all Laws relating to society. The fact that Government employees are held above the Law Makes the Laws irrelevant.
Government workers are human beings just like the rest of society. The United States does not have a higher class of human beings simply by their employment status. It makes our Justice department seem discriminatory and incompetent of enforcing Laws equally.
Where the outrage is, I do not know yet this is probably the reason that the Justice department is confident that their lack of enforcing Laws equally will not be detrimental to their employment.
How can an administration ignore Congressional orders to release papers concerning Soladyne? How can our Attorney General ignore Congress when it comes to the "fast and furious" debacle? Why are obstruction and contempt charges not being filed?
The same issues occurred during both Clinton and Bush administrations. Yet Nixon had his feet held to the fire when it came to breaking of Laws. Even Reagan had to answer Congressional requests. Clinton had his oversight when it came to Lewinski, but Janet Reno failed to answer Waco, Ruby Ridge, and Elián González questions. Even though murder, kidnapping and various other charges were ignored.
To answer the OP, I see no reason that government workers are not required to submit to random drug tests.
Reality, I believe that the corruption of goverment is the essence of government. The administration of government now and in the past has and is criminal, based on the laws of society. I believe that if government is truly investigated thousands of present and past administrators who are still living would go to jail. The courts would be overloaded along with the prison systems and the minorities would not be the majority of new prisoners. So, this will never happen.
If the average government worker like a post-person should have to take a random drug test, then why should not every american citizen to be fair?
How many people would be fired for drug use? I would say about 75%.
what kind of drugs? Is that illegal drugs, prescription drugs, alcohol, tobacco and coffee
or even sugar?
Nobody has been fired or denied public assistance for coffee or sugar use, but these days you can be fired or denied insurance for tobacco use.
I knew a father once upon a time, whose son was a marijuana smoker. The son loved his father but could get no love in return, because he was a drug user. This father was an alcoholic. I pointed out the hypocrisy to him, and he deigned never to see me again.

Why is it considered unconstitutional to drug test welfare recipients? With all the talk in the media they make it sound like it is a "Right" to do drugs. What part of doing drugs is in the constitution?

Do you feel welfare recipients should be drug tested? If so, why?Clearly from the image below, I'm personally against drug testing for welfare. In fact, I can't think of one good reason to support it. I'm not looking to debate anyone, I'm interested in hearing other opinions on this, especially if...
