The End of the World is Coming! Are You Prepared?

   So, something bad is going to happen, somewhere, eventually. Nobody know how bad it will be, but it's as close to a certainty as possible.
   
   A recent poll had 30% of Americans saying that they think an armed revolution will be necessary within a few years. No kidding. Basically 20% of Ds and 40% of Rs.
   
   So, a couple questions.
   
   1 - Do you think something bad is coming? If so, how bad and how soon?
   2 - Have you done anything to prepare for it?
   3 - Is there anything you would like to do to prepare for a bad scenario, but haven't done because of time/money/etc constraints?
   
   I'll go first.
   1 - Yes. I think we are going to have another recession, probably depression. The economic foundations of the US and the EU are not strong, and we are making bubbles. I think we can avoid serious pain for 5 years or so, but the fundamentals in the market are going to make themselves known eventually. More people will be shifted to PT work to avoid healthcare costs, more jobs will be eliminated to avoid healthcare costs, and more people will be unable to keep up with their bills. Eventually the fed won't be able to keep holding up the housing market by pumping $40+ billion a month into it. This crash, when it comes, is going to be bad. Rationing food and gas bad.
   
   2 - Yes. I'm working on growing food and raising chickens. What we can't grow, we're storing... rice, flour, beans, mostly staples like that.
   
   3 - I really wish I could have a large greenhouse with a hydroponic system set up. I'm not big on raising anything like pigs/cows, I couldn't handle the slaughter and I don't want to have to rely on anyone else. Not to mention, our family just doesn't eat much meat anymore. Fish and chicken is enough for me. Ideally, I would like to know that between my food storage and what I can grow/raise, we would have enough food for at least 2 years.
   
   Of course, this is all just my opinion

   Well if the end of the world is coming it is for sure not because of man made global warming.The Russians have again raised the specter of global cooling that sort of makes global warming "cool" by comparison. Pulkovo, which dates back to 1839, is just outside of Petersburg and is the principal astronomical observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Man made global warming has finally been exposed by scientists (after peer review) to be a hoax as new tree ring study shows conclusive scientific proof of 2000 years of cooling.

   How long do you think it will be till the "chicken little" media switches from "the Ice Caps are melting!" and stop making gas guzzlers to we need more greenhouse gases or we'll all freeze to death?

   Keeping people scared is a way to control them (religions and political regimes have done that for ever, so nothing is new)
   When it comes to global warming (or cooling for that matter) rest assured someone is making money out of it.
   Living scared is not living at all and "preparing" for the worst is another way of being dead alive

      Are you suggesting that being able to independently provide your own food, water, and power... all at prices lower than the going market rate, is somehow a bad thing?
