Question - incoming links (backlinks)

    I have a question about backlinks - does anyone know how Google would interpret multiple backlinks from separate pages on the same edu domain.  I have hubs that legitimately relate to courses I teach, and I post a few links in my syllabi each semester.  They relate to avoiding errors in term papers and other relevant information for students (how to use online discussion boards, etc.).  But - the syllabi do not get deleted as time goes by, so after a few semesters, I then have several links to the same hubs from different pages (the syllabus pages) on the same domain.  Will this be a negative thing?

    The only way to get rid of them after the fact is for me to take the syllabus down completely - after the semester or term is over, we can no longer submit syllabi for approval, so if we get into it to edit it, it just goes away. That isn't a good thing, since it's better to have the online record of previous syllabi, so if Google might penalize my hubs, I can just avoid adding those links in the future. Other professors link to their web pages or sites every semester, and there's actually a specific field in the syllabus to do that, as well as fields for us to add links.  But I don't know how this affects traffic or page ranking.

    If anyone knows how this might be viewed by Google, please let me know?  Thanks!

    Just my opinion, FWIW.  If the links are to relevant content and improves the readers experience, you should have no problem.

    I really doubt that it is going to cause a problem especially if you are linking to related or relevant content.  Google worries about thousands of irrelevant links pointing to unrelated content... those are the types of links that are trying to game the system.  I would continue linking away...
