    Hi Everyone!
I am rewriting a recipe hub and I have a question? The title of the hub is. How to make the large nut rolls for the up and coming holiday season. Well do you need to have 1250 words in a hub?  Can I tell family stories about making and serving these nut rolls? Or don't you need that many words?
    Thak You Gardener Den

      Hi gardener,

As vocalcoach mentioned, 1250 words is a recommendation, not a requirement, though a cute/funny/moving family story related to the recipe sounds like it might be a nice addition. smile

Your recipe hub need not be 1250 words.  I would suggest shortening the title.  Maybe leaving out "the up and coming holiday season" and go directly to the holiday you're writing about.

It's fine to include a short, interesting family story.

Be sure to use the recipe capsule provided.  Including calorie and nutrition information is also helpful for the reader.

Include original photos of each recipe step to help rate your hub higher.  This is important because you have a generous amount of competition on the internet.

    Good luck!

Maybe you can address where to obtain quality ingredients, why certain ingredients as opposed to others, nutritional value, suggested servings and caloric content. Good luck!

Sharing family history and stories in recipe hubs is a great technique that I used in some of mine. It not only adds content to a recipe hub but authenticates the recipe. By giving a little background, it adds an interest and uniqueness which will make it stand out from similar recipes. I also agree with vocalcoach that your title should be shortened. Also, be careful to note that your actual title and URLs can be different in a helpful or not so helpful way. I learned this the hard way where I am now stuck with URLs that hinder traffic. One actually has the word "holiday" and another (or maybe it's the same one) has "Thanksgiving" in it, even though I removed it from the title. They don't get much traffic. Unfortunately, URLs are permanent. So plan accordingly at the start of a new hub.

I recently opened a featured hub with 24 words, total.

    Don't worry about word count.

Quality is more important than quantity! Don't worry if you don't reach that word count. Write as many words as it takes to tell your story and get your point across. Don't include any text in your hub just for the sake of increasing the word count. That is not a good thing to do. I don't think there is a set minimum word count but for non-poetry hubs perhaps over 400 is a good idea.
