How is Authorship Determined Across Multiple Accounts?

There are three people in my house who use Hubpages -- three independent people. Two of us have multiple accounts (though I have the most).

How is authorship determined? Is it by IP address or by Paypal address? I'm asking because of the contest that's currently going on. I don't think my most recent hub is worth being the first one to publish, but I've asked my family to hold their hubs since I'm the one earning the most. They're getting frustrated.

We're all on the same IP but we have different paypal addresses.

For the contest, it's determined by AdSense Publisher ID.  From the official contest page:

      http://hubpages.com/contest/hubpot

"To encourage Hubbers to create their very best, we are only allowing one Featured Hub per day per AdSense ID to count toward the prize. Your first Hub is the one we count, so make sure it's your best one!"

I've read that probably three times and still didn't know the answer *sigh*

Alright, then. This puts me in a bit of a pickle. I'm sure that the staff has considered this before but as I've never seen an answer to this issue, I'd like the opportunity to understand better how we are, as three separate people living at a single street address, supposed to make this work for us. Hubpages encourages us to "invite our family and friends" and that's what I did, but now we're in a bit of a pickle.

Google Adsense TOS only allow us to have one account per street address. Since each account only has one Adsense Publisher ID, this means that if my husband and room mate wish to get paid by Hubpages through the Hubpages Ad program, they must use the household Adsense Publisher ID, which is technically "mine."

(Admittedly, I'm not sure if either of them connected it now that you have to be logged into the account to connect, which is another obvious problem of requiring Adsense in order to earn on Hubpages.)

Is there any way that the staff would be willing to reconsider this for cases such as ours? I'm pretty prolific, and my room mate sees what I'm doing and wants to try to publish perhaps not as often as I do, but quite often at least, and since I'm the closest to payout on two accounts, it makes the most sense for me to publish before she does each day -- this means that she's waiting on me to publish before she can.

I'm not sure if this make sense at all.

Is this otherwise irrelevant unless there's a contest going on?

We believe for people in the United States, at least, that it is definitely possible to have separate Google AdSense accounts at the same street address, so long as they are for separate people with different tax payer identification numbers.  In fact, I know of several married couples where the husband and wife each have their own account.

If your roommate has applied and been denied, please have them contact us and we will see if there is anything we can do to help.

            Wait. Seriously?

Now I've looked this up and on the Google forums it says that you can only have one publisher ID per street address. Of course that seems to be coming from individuals who use the system and not Google.

She doesn't have enough hubs published yet to apply, but I'll let her know that this is a possibility, then sit back and make sure she has days to enter the pot for the contest as well.

You have been very helpful, Paul. I appreciate it. If you could give me an example of somebody who has more than one account in a household, I'd appreciate having their user name so that I could send an e-mail to ask questions, but it seems that this may be worth a try!

Why wouldn't you allow one featured account per HP account rather than per Adsense ID? Kinda doesn't make sense since, as with Everyday Miracles, there are multiple accounts from the same house-hold belonging to different hubbers. HP knows this already and based on previous contests, it would only make sense that the chosen hubs are chosen by account.

In addition, it would mean that only one hub per household could enter if only one Adsense ID is used. That would mean that Everyday Miracles could not publish on the same day as her husband and her room mate would have to wait to publish on the third day.

One per account isn't fair as some of us have multiple accounts. I have quite a few niche accounts on Hubpages that I'm building up.

So I understand this point and support it. That makes sense to me, that it's one featured hub per hubber rather than hub account.

The problem is that IF we're only allowed one Adsense account per household, this is problematic for determining who owns an account. This is the way that I've always interpreted the TOS for Adsense, but I could be wrong.

Well maybe something more unique should be applied in order to determine who owns a particular account. You are not the first hubber to have multiple persons using the same Adsense ID.

@Paul. Isn't it required that US citizens sign up a tax form or something? Wouldn't the SSN be unique to each person regardless of whether or not more than one accounts are on the same Adsense ID? I'm just asking since I don't really know.

It seems pretty clear to me.   We each have a unique username, and each account is a separate account.

So if HubPages wanted to give each account an even chance, all it has to do is work by username.  They've clearly taken a decision that they don't want people with multiple accounts to get multiple chances.  I don't know the rationale for that - ut given that decision, Adsense is the only way they can do it, because they need a way that will work for everyone, and tax numbers only work for US citizens.

Shoot, even though I mentioned the US tax numbers, I failed to recognize the hubbers outside the US, like myself...lol

LOL, when I read it I thought, what?   I thought perhaps you meant they could use US tax numbers for Americans and something else for others - but I don't know what the "something else" would be.
