I am spending some time this morning "moderating" my approved comments from the dashboard.
It took a while to load them all, http://hubpages.com/my/hubs/comments?co … r=Approved
I've found a number of comments where the commenter link dropped and those links are showing. Previously, I had all my guestbooks set to not show that html. Since I am able to moderate from the one page, I am denying and then permanently deleting.
I've not looked, but do we have the capability to set our hub comments to display no html? I would imagine we do have that feature.
However, it is helpful to be able to see all your comments in one place - we never were able to see them like this previously. [good feature]
Now, I'm wondering about the "deny" list!
Curious too why the display list of comments come up alphabetically, but with the end of the alphabet displaying first with the hub names.
Julie, Near the top of that page, click the "show settings" button. You'll be able to specify various options, such as requiring your approval before comments appear. That's the setting I use. As for the sorting you mentioned, there is a button (right above the filter button) to change the sort by hub or by date.
Hi Glenn, thanks for the tip. I've got a tab with "moderate your comments" all displayed -- quite a few of them, by the way! It is really pretty cool to review the comment live all of my hubs this way.
And, what is pretty neat, aside from the ability to deny and then permanently delete, you get to see the new IDs of the former lensmasters! And can click through to their profile pages. What a great and useful exercise too.
But, since mine is displaying in reverse order, I scrolled all the way to the bottom and am coming back up.
P.S. Back to add my P.S. By the way, this is an activity that you might want to start after you have eaten since it can take a long time to complete. However, it is quite rewarding to review all the comments like this ... to refresh your mind on who said what, see who they are now on HP, and then get inspired in more ways than I can articulate!!!
Yes, you're right Julie. It displays in reverse order of hub title. There's no way to change that at present. Maybe sorting by date may be more beneficial for you.
While you're at it, select to view spam comments too. Sometimes some comments are automatically tagged as spam incorrectly and you can change it so they display, if they are not really spam.
Glenn, can I give your comment a thumbs up? I'm still making slow progress up the page and having a FUN time of it all.
Appreciate the suggestion on the SPAM moderation too! That's next.
Thanks very much.
Glad I could be of help. It's good you're having fun reviewing all your comments. I know it's a lot of work since you're literally going through everything from the beginning. But that's a very useful thing to do for lenses that were moved to HubPages.
Glenn, when did I say I started with the moderating of comments? Well, I JUST finished! Need to rest my eyes - feeling some eye strain. But, a worthwhile activity today.
Might I say, excellent recommendation that you made to then check the SPAM comments. I only had 3 and they were indeed all spam. All the names were beginning with the same two alphabet characters, but were a bit different. And only 2 of the comments were from the same IP - which is a nice feature to see that. Denied and permanently deleted.
Well Julie, according to the start of this thread, you were working on it for seven hours. HP is really good at setting comments as spam, so they don't display when it is known to be from a spammer, as you noticed with the similar IP address or that they may have spammed others already. But HP also uses other criteria. I'm not sure what the algorithm is, but sometimes I find a legitimate comment set as spam. It might be due to the words they happen to use. It's rare, but at least we have the option to approve it when it happens.

Is anyone else getting a surge in spammy comments in their Hubs? I seem to be getting at least one or two every day now. I only get the opportunity to check my comments once a day, and I delete the spammy ones. I got a snippy comment from another hubber stating "Wow, you let...

What Would Happen if you didn't Approve a comment?Under new comments there is 2 buttons... APPROVE and SPAMBut what happens if you press neither? If nothing, then is the approve button really neccasary? or should it just be a default until you hit Spam?

Lately, I would say in the past couple of months, I get comments where a person posts an address. It has numbers in front and then there is the name of a road. No city or zip code. I get them in different articles and from different user names although the way the user name is formatted makes me...
