For many of us the first thing we notice when we walk into a room is how the room smells.
My question:  What smell must one smell in order to feel as though the room is clean?

If it is occupied, then the smell of freshly vacuumed carpets and sofas. Non-carpeted rooms are cleaned with soap and/or cleaners.

If it is for sale, then the smell of fresh paint.

I had not thought about the smell of fresh paint if one is trying to sell.  Great idea.  Thanks Kevin

You are welcome Kim. That is one of the last things which people do after they have emptied rooms:  paint ALL rooms - even bathrooms and kitchens and they have cleaners for carpets.

A fresh linen smell is always light and clean smelling.

I like fresh linen, too.  I can always tell I sleep so much better after bed laundering which has that smell.
Thanks Faith for responding.  Do you have any special cleaning products you use that give that fresh linen smell?

If the smell is the first thing that I notice when I walk into a room, that mean's something  has been added to the air to make it smell good,  or it smells dirty. Other than those two, I don't think about the smell of a room when I enter it

As you know, if you clean a house you won't have to worry about adding something that smells CLEAN

I have Geranium liquid incense made, here in California,  and I have one called Nag Champa liquid incense imported from India, to add scents to our home..But I clean my house every day, and I give it a good cleaning once, or twice a week. It makes the smell of my incense so much more pure

I have a liquid incense steamer that causes a misty steam that goes through the AC vents, and finally through the air cleaners/filters.
I love those two scentss, Geranium, and Nag

If I smell any artificial odor I assume they are trying to cover something up.

      psycheskinner,

I wonder about that too.  Thanks for responding.  Do you like walking into a home where someone has been baking?

When I smell scented candles like jasmine or vanilla, I instantly feel calm and relaxed. (If it's something too strong like - often - roses, I just want to get out of there before I get a headache.)
