How to get visitors/readers from Pinterest?

Okay, so I've been using Pinterest for quite some time now but I still kinda find it confusing. Do you like just pin a photo there and expect visitors, or should you put something like "click this" on the caption for people to know that it's a linkage to somewhere? Also, does a view on the pin count as view on the source itself? I'm kinda confused about this. I would appreciate some assurance.

You should not add "click this", because pretty much everything on Pinterest clicks out to somewhere else. People who use Pinterest regularly know to click. What you should put in the description box is the title of your article, and a quick, one sentence blurb about why you pinned it. (Great vegan tamale recipe!)

A view of a pin does not count as a view of the source article. The Pinterest viewer would have to click through to the original article, and arrive on that page, in order for it to count as a view.

I hadn't realized that when you click on a picture and view the pictures in a hub in almost like a slideshow presentation, that you get the options there to google plus, or pin them, etc.  It makes it very easy to do.

Its a good question, and I haven't really done much with this, but ought to.

    Great answer from Lisa.
Or course, a great image, especially with graphics is a great help too.

All I know is Pinterest doesn't love me anymore. Whenever I now post an image, it no longer shows up on my feed page where others will see it. And this includes non-hub posts. Oh, well...

Maybe they do what HubPages does - don't show you your own pins so you can see the other stuff without the clutter.  My pins don't show up in my feed either, but I do manage to get traffic from Pinterest, probably from what other people pin.

Like any other social media people have to find and like your pin boards.  If you can put in the effort to do that, not spam (not have every pin be promotional) and stick at it long enough to get followers, it will work.

Or just use really nice pictures and let other people pin them.

Alas, I've done all that from Day One. And got lots of followers. This latest development started a couple months ago I believe. It's just the way it is I guess.

I love Pinterest, a huge percentage of my traffic comes from there.

How did you build a following over there?  DId you follow a bunch of people who then followed you back?  I am unclear how the Pinterest community works.

Go to Pinterest and search for topics you either like to write about, or just  enjoy.  There should be something you like.  it might be photography or recycling and see what you come up with..  If it is something you like on one of the boards,  either follow the board or the person or pin the image to one of your own boards on recycling or photography.   Look for hubpages boards or boards from people you follow on Hubpages.   I don't really mean those subjects - but whatever floats your boat.  It helps to pin images from your own hubs but  don't overdo it - just one or two at a time are fine. Check your google stats in real time and you will be amazed at how much traffic comes your way from pinterest.  You can even watch what the readers are reading on google analytics.
If you are handy with photoshop add images which you created yourself with text on them - use these to pin on your boards.   They might say something on them like 'macro photography tips'  It makes a visual which tells people straight away what the image is about.  If you use the image in your hubs, pin it when you publish the hub to one of the boards you have created. People looking at boards will see it and either pin it to one of their boards or click it to read on your site .   Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

So you drive traffic to your boards by pinning from other boards? You don't need to follow the boards, or does it help to do so?

You don't need to be active on Pinterest to get Pinterest traffic.  As long as you have pinnable images (interesting images that tell what the article is about), then people will pin your images.

Pinterest is just a fun community where you can bookmark articles that interest you.  I have different boards about topics that interest me - quilting, crafts, genealogy, home improvement, finance, etc. Then I pin my hubs onto those boards. Nobody is going to look for HubPages (the general public) so you need to put it in the right topic.  You want to have an interesting board with a good number of pins.  You don't want to fill it with just your articles, and repinning is a great way to support others and fill up your board with things people will find interesting.

When you repin, Pinterest will ask you if you want to follow the board of someone else who also pinned or repinned that image.  Say yes, and your feed will give you their images as well. So the better your boards (the more popular the images), the more likely your board will be followed.  People then see what other things you pinned on the board and hopefully see your hub on there.

You got it!  I would only follow boards or subject which interest you.  No point in doing it otherwise.  You might get addicted  careful!  - there are some great ideas on Pinterest.  Return the favor to those whose work you really admire, they will do the same.

I definitely think it is worth it.

I'll take that advice to heart. By the way, just wondering, is it acceptable to pin a whole board of pictures in one ago (like some collection or something)?

If you create a board, pin images from other boards that you enjoy, they will return the favor.  Don't pin pages of your own images on hubpages - limit yourself to only a few at a time but you can pin all anything you like from other boards - as many as you want to.  Follow people with the same interests and they will follow you.

I am also new to Pinterest. I don't have all the answers but I do know that the images I pin aka the images that I found interesting usually have a button-like link that leads you to the relevant article or whatever. For example I have one category called ideas for the house. Let's say I find a cool pic on how to turn an old barstool into a cool original nightstand. Well the pin would just show the pic and maybe some of the relevant info on the topic but the LINK associated with the pin will give me the actual step by step instructions on how to make the nightstand. For more ideas get a solid group of people whose tastes you trust. In fact check out my Pinterest pins and become a valuable follower. Then you will be able to pin pins I found cool in your own category. You can also link it to FB in order to gain more followers. The more pins and followers u gain the better chance that Pinterest 's homepage will display items of interest to you helping you build you site even more.
