I'm new to HubPages and my question is how do you save your content as you go along?   I thought I saved my content only to find out that when I went in again all was lost.   Squidoo use to give me the option to save as I go along.   Am I missing something?

Possibly like myself first coming to HP and using the 'Text Capsule' I was in the habit of clicking the 'Red X' to exit a document. That habit is from using MS Word. At Word an option will appear asking if one wishes to 'Save' as an option.

At HP the 'Red X' is on the 'Discard Changes' queue. If by habit one clicks that 'Red X' then a window appears saying "Something went wrong . . . ". The only option available is clicking an 'OK" queue, which exits the capsule and not saving. I had to get in the habit of using the 'Save' queue.

I write everything in Microsoft Word first and then copy and paste it into the hub capsules. I find it easier that way and it means that I have a back up on my computer as well.

Sorry to hear that, craig. I do as Elderberry does, write the entire hub in Microsoft Word first. However, I don't copy and paste. I actually print out the content and re-write the whole thing in the hubtool. This is my first level of editing to find typos, check sentence structure, flow, and continuity and make those corrections as I go. The final hub is never exactly like the first write. But the format and basic message is the same. Welcome to HP, good luck.
Edit: to save your hub while working on it in the hubtool, click "done editing" each time you come out. To go back in, click "edit."

That is a great tip for editing. I will try that out. Thank you for  sharing.

I write my hubs directly on HubPages, and haven't had any trouble with saving work. I believe that there is even a way to revert to an old version, which might help you find the words you lost.

Thankyou for the advice everyone I have written my hub in word and simply copied and pasted it.  It would be nice if they could make it simple by simply putting up a save button.   I will go ahead and use the advice given by you all.

    thanks

As others have mentioned there is a Save Unpublished/Done Editing button, right next to the Publish button.  It works fine for me.  I save unpublished hubs for latter work on a regular basis.

I suggest that you make a "test" hub and try it out again to see where you might have gone wrong.
