Hi Hubbers,
I am slowly losing the will here,I have spent hours and 5 attempts trying to pass the quality test,I got a positive comment and email saying my article was now published,4 hours later I get another email saying it doesn't pass the standard,I am at a loss,I have read other people's Hub pages and I can't see a world of difference.
I don't understand why the Admin' does not at least leave a brief note confirming what the issue is?
I would be grateful for any tips or advice?????
I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process. Will you please give feedback on my Hub 'Learning to Drive' A romantic story told in a way that reflects real life. Film review 2015 (must be signed in to view). What can I do to improve? Thanks!
At first, I thought it was a good hub and couldn'f find anything wrong with it. I hadn't heard about the movie and it looked interesting.
But then I just scanned it. It is rather short and the images you use are copyrighted, You should try adding more information that will help someone deciding whether to watch the movie, and other things that helps enrich their experience.
Thanks for the tip, but I think I will call it a day, the images are from google images and in a sense are all photo's not copyrighted to some level ?
I have read a review on the same film on Hubpages, the author gives the whole plot away and goes into detail about what happens, when it happens and to who! this is not my style and I don't enjoy reading a review which explains exactly what happens, it leaves the viewer with nothing to find for themself.
I am not concerned with being featured,I just wanted to start off slow with a few posts a week and try and build some followers on here with my own style, saying that it must be at least 400/500/600 words to make it worthy does not make sense in my opinion, unless you are writing about a subject that warrants this type of coverage.
Are there any other pay for advertising blog sites that are less rigid in their acceptance of posts?
You cannot use images from Google and assume they are free for the taking. They are not. You have to check that photos are copyright free or have a Creative Commons license. This is part of being a writer. It's called 'research'.
No matter where you write, if you include images, you will have the same problem and run the risk of being sued for copyright theft.
Edit: By the way HubPages is an article writing site, not a blog hosting site. Articles should be in the region of 800 - 1500 words. Readers don't come to HP to read an ongoing blog, it's not structured like that. Each article has to stand alone and be complete. If you want a blog then use somewhere like Blogger, you can put advertising on it and make some money that way.
Thanks for the reply, I wasn't looking to create an ongoing Blog, just good, honest Movie reviews.
I have written close to 2000 Movie reviews on Wordpress over the last few years, my average word count ranging from 200 to 600 words, I have a preference to read movie reviews that describes the essence of the film without giving away big plot points or detailed information about what characters did, my confusion with Hub Pages is this, if you can write a movie review and make your point in 300 words, are you not just adding fat to your article and boring the reader by going into so much detail they no longer need to see the movie themself? ( I am basing this argument purely for Movie reviews)
I will scratch the idea of doing Movie reviews on Hub pages and instead move into the subject of politics,I think this area lends itself easily to have opinion and argument that naturally hits the 800 to 1500 word count.
Thanks for your response.
I think you answered your own question. HP is not the right platform (any more) for such short articles. Better places are own blog, IMDB and Amazon (for older movies).
Not sure I agree with you about shorter being better. There's nothing wrong with a little plot and character analysis. It's surprising how many people will seek out reviews *after* they've seen a film. You can always add spoiler alerts.
Be careful with politics too - don't let your hubs rely on current events too much - you need good solid stuff like historical politics. Things that kids might have to research for homework, that sort of thing. Otherwise you will be competing with news sites (you can't) and your hubs will age very fast.
Interesting point on the spoiler movie reviews,I guess I have always thought that this would mean covering classic films rather than recent releases, is there any issue with writing movie reviews for well known blockbusters going back over the last forty years, that appeals to me more knowing that you are sharing your point of view rather than giving away plot lines,I could easily exceed the 1500 word count on a film such as Jackie Brown.
