One of my most popular Hubs has been unfeatured this week for lack of traffic. This is despite it receiving one quarter of its total visits this week alone.
To quote a famous Australian politician... "Please explain!"
What is your definition of "popular"? It's all relative. It may be getting a lot of traffic by your standards, but that may be a small amount of traffic by HubPages' standards.
By "popular" I mean it has had the second most visits off all of my hubs,
That doesn't tell me much. Like I said, that's a lot of traffic by your standards, but it could be a very low figure compared to successful Hubs.
It is prose poetry that has been here for a few months. It only lost featured status this week. Just found that half of my fiction hubs have suffered the same fate since starting this thread.
In the process of removing them.
That's what tends to happen if you write poetry and fiction here, I'm afraid.
HubPages gets 90% of its traffic from search engines and it's the search engine traffic that generates the money. Unfortunately, poetry and fiction Hubs usually don't get ranked by Google or Bing at all, which means they rarely get enough search engine traffic to meet HubPages' standards.
Just try searching for poetry or fiction on Google and you'll see what I mean (don't try searching for your titles, because readers looking for a poem or story don't know what your titles are!). For instance, Google "Christmas poem" and you'll get results from sites that specialise in poetry OR sites that specialise in Christmas, not generalist sites like HubPages. That's why most people will tell you HubPages is not a good place for creative writers, unless you're content just to share your work within the Hubber community. I'm sorry if someone gave you the wrong impression about that when you joined, but it's the reality.
IF HubPages eventually creates a niche site for creative writing, then you would do better - but that's a long way in the future.
You obviously did not read or see this post which is a direct quote from an email the team sent to me which very clearly explains all of this. Every hubber should read it.

Good luck with getting an explanation Bronwyn. So many people have been complaining about their popular hubs being unfeatured for lack of traffic. HP just keep saying that social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc doesn't count .. only searches via Google etc). I too wish they would change this point of view.
Totally agree with this.
HPs POV is probably that there isn't any search traffic so way expose it to the search engines, which tends to be backward thinking.
As opposed to "forward thinking" by going ahead and exposing it to the search engines and taking the site wide ding if Google doesn't like it.
Of the two choices, I'd prefer to see it be unfeatured and not have to pay the price of a google downcheck on the entire site.
That is not the team's POV. Read the post I quoted here, which explains very clearly how they think.
Thanks Jodah. This may be the proverbial straw. I do not just get social media traffic. As much as they may wish it to be true, HP is not the only site that comes up in search results.

Well, when you are suffering from depression and you opened your hubpages stats then you notice that 9 of your supposed to be featured hubs got unfeatured due to lack of traffic.. Very disappointing indeed but, can you guys here suggest some tips in improving hits? I don't want to spam my facebook...

I'm in the process of migrating my content from my blog to HubPages and just transferred an article titled "Top 50 Men's Grooming Blogs for 2014." I just switched this article to HubPages a few moments ago (using a 301 redirect). I'm already on the first page of google for the key term...

I'm thinking the answer is probably yes?If you have hubs that have been deemed "not featured", for one reason or another, will that factor into lowering your overall score/rating as a HubPages member? Example--let's say your overall rating is 75. If 10 non featured hubs become...

Let me preface this by stating I am not trying to be mean or a troll. In fact, I avoid the forums because I don't want to get involved. But with so many posts about the topics I'm about to discuss, I wanted to put in my two cents and to offer a reality check to old and new hubbers...

I haven't been active in probably 1+ years on here other than checking in. I am wanting to get more active, but not sure what to write about these days. I have been debating what types of hubs to start writing and was wondering if product reviews or recipes actually get many views, or if I should...

This is not a complaint about a specific Hub, but the whole "Not Featured due to lack of engagement" thing. I will however, give a specific example.I have a recipe Hub for making Chicken Paprikash. This Hub has been de-indexed by HubPage as seen in this...
