I see no evidence that they exist, yet some claim otherwise.

    What say you? smile

Of course they exist, I am rational but wait one second just checking my pulse. Yeah I am good to go, I exist !

How do you prove this though? What is it about you that makes you rational? Is it your public profession of rationality? Can't anyone make such a profession?

    1. profile image48
HealthTipposted 14 years agoin reply to this

It's not a profession it's a decision like was it right to release Ronnie Biggs from prison on health grounds. My mind said he committed a crime he should serve his time but the rational side of me said he was dying so what harm was he if he was was released.

Anyone with commonsense can be rational, and cosette stop your laughing girl, my rational side says you need a spanking !

So being rational is the same as having common sense?

Shouldn't rational people agree more often then?

rational people agree all the time, but being only a few, maybe you didn't notice.

HealthTipposted 14 years agoin reply to this

No but one finds people with common sense tend to be more rational because they think before they respond. I disagree with them agreeing more often though, the rational side of them would tend to view whether the other persons view was right or wrong !

    Descartes jokes! Yes!

A waitress walks up to Descartes, pours him a cup of coffee, and asks, "Would you like cream with that?"

    Descartes replies, "I think not."

    And disappears! big_smile

But really how would you even begin. Do others have to find you rational to actually be that way?Or is enough for you to believe that  to be true of yourself....but then it wouldn't be rational to negate others opinions..,or would it big_smile big_smile

lol okay, what do you call a person who isn't a theist?

    A theist?

Is it rational to call atheist a theist?  Or is there some sort of logic behind the conundrum?

I bet rational and irrational people come up with the same answer that oppose each other. lol big_smile

Rational explanation..A is a prefix meaning not, or apart from and theist describes someone who believes in or studies God, so an Atheist would be a person who is apart from the belief in God...Ha I can be rational too.

      1. profile image0
sandra rinckposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Not exactly the point of the conundrum.  But okay! big_smile

Atheist studied theism and concludes he/she is atheist. A theist studies theism and concludes he/she is a theist.

Both study a theism, both consider themselves rational, studied and within reason.  Both read the same things (for sake of argument anyways) but all who have studied a theism move towards opposing sides yet both use the same methods to reach their conclusions.

Atheist have or do study a theism.
A theist however also studies a theism but does not study atheism.

        ....

They've studied it and determined they do not believe it, and are so Atheist, apart from or not partaking in the belief that God exists.

Just was one of those things that should not have happened. After we got married he just kind of snapped, I should have seenit coming, before we were married him lived in a nice small quite house in the woods, playing his guitar, keeping everything just so. Then he moved in with me, my 7 year old son, three cats and a ferret...it was just tomuch for him

LOL! Me too! We should start a club here ralwus--the "Three Strikes Yer Out!" Club. big_smile

I would never characterize myself as rational. I person think raionality is a defense, that it isn't even real. It's something people talk about to make themselves feel better, less frightened.

Would it help this thread to define "rational", or, is it that this thread may define it for us?
