I've been a hubber for 4 weeks now and written 7 hubs. I've had a fair amount of traffic viewing, but so far, I've only earned a few cents on Adsense.
I think I've done everything right. I've pasted my affiliate codes for Google and Amazon into My Affiliate Settings and it says that Google is 'Active' and Amazon is 'Set'. Is that all I have to do, or is there another step I've missed out? It just seems strange that I got this one burst of 14 cents on one day, and since then nothing.
I wasn't expecting to become rich, but I would have expected a few more cents. Is it normal for newbies to have such low earnings initially?
Just try and get your visits up to a minimum of 300-400 views a day.
Dont worry about earnings until then, keep in mind, no more than 5% of your viewers will ever click anything and 40% of your views are going to hubpages coffers
I've checked three of your hubs and from what I can see, you've got all the right ingredients. It's just a matter of waiting for them to be indexed by search engines (while some can be done within hours, they can also disappear soon after). You can encourage the SERPs and also try and get some instant traffic with backlinks from social bookmarking sites, that works short term.
For long term results the search engine traffic is gold. And word of mouth, which you can't control. But you'll know when you get it because people will post links to your pages from places you never even thought about, be it their blogs, forums, also people mentioning it in magazines and newspapers.
You could also write some related articles and publish them elsewhere and have a link back as well. Ezinearticles is good for that as well as a few other sites.
But I think you're off to a good start. You've made some good quality hubs.
That's great. Thanks for those responses. I feel much more reassured now. It's not just about the money, it's about being sure that I haven't omitted to do something important. It's a very steep learning curve for me, but I'm enjoying it. Thank you so much for your help.
Some people do it just for the love of it, some for the money, but there is an overlap where you can make money from the things you enjoy. It's just a matter of finding where that medium is.
Here's a little something so you can hit that steep learning curve with some speed: HubPages Tips: Using keyword research to make a good Hub great!
Hi Paddycat, look out for the HubMob topic every week and join in. Hubmob hubs usually get quite good traffic.

People have been asking this, so I looked at my account. In the week that my application was approved, I have been earning a few cents. I looked under earnings, and it shows that money earned from HubPages is 54 cents. So, I thought, am I getting anything from AdSense? Yes, I am. I went to the...

Having been with Hubpages for getting on two years now, and having penned 83 Hubs, I think it's time I threw the towel in. Over that time, I conscientiously stuck to all the rules and guidelines, and was rewarded by views gradually rising to around 350 per day with earnings around $25 per month. I...

I just checked my earnings panel, and I was quite surprised to see that my earnings from yesterday were 2 cents. They have been in the range of 20 cents to about 75 cents a day. Yesterday was actually a fairly high traffic day for me, and that doesn't make sense. Any idea why it would be that low,...

I know there have been a lot of changes in the air in the past 10 or so days... There was another big Panda update... then the stinkin' Penguin and all. And, HP has been tinkering around with the design of pages. My traffic has remained relatively constant through it all. But, over...
