There's a website out there that's going around the web and grabbing articles and author's names and then (I think) putting them through an article spinner and posting them on the site. A bunch of folks at Demand Studios have found their names and (sort of) their articles on there.
The site is upvery (dot) com
And do you think their intro screen looks familiar?
Just in case anyone needs it, here's the WhoIs info:
Whois report on the site owner Fred Thompson:
http://www.whois.net/whois/upvery.com.com
Yeah that site is using HubPages' concept too. And the top banner design you mentioned. But "press release"? It's refering to articles as "press releases". That's weird. Haha. Well the site seems like a not-so-English site anyway. :-\
I did a Page Rank check and upvery.com's rank is 1/10. A "site:upvery.com" looked showed 22,700 pages from upvery.com indexed in Google. That's quite a lot...
Im not sure.... but you have just given him a dofollow backlink! if you just change your post to upvery.com then this solves the problem
Done, Ryan. Thanks. I didn't even think of that!
Just keep an eye out for this site. They obviously know about HP.
It looks like just another article network, im sure every network on the web gets 100's of submissions an hour that is mostly stolen, rehashed, spun content. Some have better dupe checkers than others.
If its been put through an article spinner..hmm, I wonder what protections the original author has in that case?
Usually these sites dont rank well enough to be a concern, especially if they offer nothing but crap content.
How would this effect a DS writer anyway? once the contents sold and republished its no longer there concern anyway.....do you have friends who are doing the rev share option? ive been curious about results with that method
It's very strange. The website was originally sent to one of the DS writers by a another writer friend who had several of her articles plagiarized by the site. The DS writer then took a look and her name (her real name -- not her DS name) is listed as an author, along with a few others. And they had nothing to do with the articles.
As to the Rev Share, I've only run into one person on DS who actually has written some Rev Share articles. DS' TOS are kind of free and loose when it comes to them. It says something like "We'll pay you how much we want to pay and only for as long as we want to pay you and then, you're outta here!" That said, I was planning on trying some out after the holidays. Will let you know how they go.
I'm not sure I'd write as an independent eHow contributor though. They just did a huge sweep of eHow articles (not the ones written by DS writers) and took tons of them down for being substandard and not written to the format that they want.
I'm currently sticking to HP, Examiner, DS and Foodbuzz (via my blogs) and a few private clients. I've been doing some for Constant Content, but the 35% is killing me! Just got on board with BellaOnline to see how that goes as well.
I think relache is a channel advisor/moderator at bellaonline
I think the DS revShare program has a 2year cut off on earnings and the amount/percentage is rather opaque
Constant content is still a big earner for me, but i only pursue requested content and than repurpose it, if its not selected..the 35% isnt a big deal on the $30+ articles (or maybe its more of a big deal!)
I have referred 110 authors to constant content - only 8 are actively writing (or selling) but 3 of them have passed the $50 mark and 1 is nearing $200.00...in only two months
How is examiner treating you? I had a good start by taking popular topics and relating them to my obscure channel, with good returns...but I kind of fell off with publishing there this month, since Im focusing on the holiday crowd more
Wow, then I'm doing better than I thought then. I only wrote for them for one week before I got disgusted with the 35%, and I made more than $50 during that week! It was all for requested content as well. I look at it this way -- if my net from a CC article isn't that far off from a DS payout, I'd rather stick with DS as it's a sure thing. I can recycle a DS article into a CC article, but unless it's a requested topic (which it never is), it's like throwing a bunch of stuff up against the wall and hoping something sticks. And truthfully, I just don't have time for that. I can easily make $1,000/week with DS in a five-hour day. I look to that to pay my basic bills. Everything else is gravy, but I still want to be smart about my time.
I'm very happy with Examiner, but have slacked off in a major league way with the holidays and all. I'm going to slack off for the next few weeks as well (kids coming home for the holidays and just took on new client who is, um, needy), and then I'll hit the ground running on January 1.
Sunforged -- Whose baby is that? Are you, or your wife, preggers???
lol, i always loved the word, preggers!
http://blog.hubpages.com/2009/12/the-pa … s-secrets/
that picture is from last monday, 11 weeks!
Let's hope it's his wife that's preggers ... or else Sunny is in for one hell of a night giving birth at the hospital.
CONGRATULATIONS! WOOT! Sunforged is gonna be a daddy! That's terrific! So you are going to have one busy summer next year, that's for sure! Oh, and FYI, you're gonna be broke for a whole lot longer.
I just read the HP blog post. I assume you live somewhere near Canandaigua? I spent approx. 20 years in Corp America in the Beverage Alcohol business -- wine, beer and spirits. I can't say that I've ever made my own beer or wine, but I've made my own Kahlua (thanks to a recipe from Allied Domecq -- Kahlua's owners). Top secret though!
Your Good!

over the last ten years have lived in Buffalo, Ithaca and Syracuse - all which have major growing regions within a half hours drive
I like NY state, I spent 3 weeks in Rochester in 2007 and 3 weeks in Rochester in 2008. If it wasnt for the excessive winter snow, I would buy a holiday home up there somewhere.... I like the close proximity to Niagara Falls and Toronto, and the easy flights to NYC. Definitely my favourite part of America, with the exception of Las Vegas. Are you familiar with a British themed pub in Rochester called The Old Toad?
Very cool, Ryan...we have thrown back an ale at the same location it seems, Im not a frequent visitor to rochester but I have been to the old toad
Believe it or not my girlfriend worked at the old toad on her university placement for the 2007/2008 academic year, I guess that Americans would call that a 12 month internship. Its a small world! Oh, sorry for the lack of response to your email (despite me initiating that!); I am really busy! But I will try and make the eventual response interesting.... Oh and many congrats on the Avatar!
Nah. One of the largest global wine companies is Canandaigua Wine located in....you guessed it...Canandaigua. I sat on a lot of industry committees, so I worked with them quite a bit. Been to Ithaca, Syracuse and Buffalo on various occasions. Can't say I'd want to live there. I'm in Connecticut and it's cold enough here. It's freaking torture in the winter up there!
Thought I'd see what upvery dot come was all about and google can't find it - there are links on the results page but they all turn up a can't fine this page notice.
Shrugging....

Hi everyone,Since Google's updates these past couple of months, I've noticed a significant traffic drop (about 20%). Every time I gain some traction and hope, it's a case of going back two steps again. I'm sure I'm not alone! I thought it might be a good idea to start a healthy discussion here to...

There is so much of this going on that it may not be worthwhile to mention. Since I know that this site is not cooperative, I sent my DMCA complaint to Google. My hub is copied word for word with all the lovely photographs and even a link to another similar hub. It probably is my best hub with lots...

One of my articles on an HP niche site recently underwent the Premium Pro editing process. The editor decided to add about 800 words of her own research to supposedly "improve" my article. Personally, I hated the addition. I do not feel comfortable including other...

Hey all! Does anyone have any success writing for other websites? I'm finding that my views on my articles are up (it's all hair stuff, and everyone is doing their hair at home across the world), but my earnings are going down further and further. As we know, the Amazon issue isn't helping... Here's...

Looks like another content sniper is at work, stealing our shizz from HubPages. This so called "music news" site has sniped at least four of my Hubs and it looks like there are many other pieces pinched from my fellow music Hubbers as well. If you've written any Hubs about music (any kind...
