   Can you pick ads for your hubs or adsense places them automatically? Ads on one my hubs are a little of topic, can i change them?

   Google serves ads (automatically - yes) based on keywords in your content, when you see irrelevant (or not so relevant) ads it only means it will take little more time to find more relevant ads.

   AdSense picks them for you ...but... you can tweak which type ones show on the screen by messing with the tags.. Ive noticed whichever one is in first position after adding or deleting tags shows up most often and definitely influences whats shown

         It definitely affects the type shown. Here's a true example : I wrote a hub about how terrible I thought outsourcing American jobs was, and put outsourcing as one of the tags. But then I noticed outsourcing ads on my article about hating outsourcing so it ticked me off . I promptly added , work, jobs, bank to my tags and after they reordered they were first on my list( bcuz they go by money making potential - see hubmetrics). Instantly I noticed the ads changed to Bank of A, Alabama jobs, etc so I was proud and glad I changed it.( because its American LOL). Just to see if it was bcuz they were in first position I deleted them and it went back to outsourcing, so I changed it back and Voila back to the get work and bank ads. Normally I don't ask people to "please go look at my hubs " because its gaudy to me but in this case I think the INFO coul help a LOOOOOOT of people using tags.. I'd post a link but i'm too tired ,so click my icon and check "The Jobless Recovery Sham" to see what I'm talking about and notice my tags and the position and what ads you see most. Hope that helps! I only have 9 hubs as of now so that should be easy to find.

   Yeah you can choose the ad you want for site. Go to your account and on the publisher area, you can set the ad you want.

      I think she's talking strictly on hubpages , but yes , you can for personal websites. On hubpages you can indirectly influence by using the tags the right way.

   You'll still see a few of the lower tags on the list showing but not as many as the upper tags. I'm still debating whether to drop the outsourcing tag to stop it from sending that ad completely but also want people to find it on the search engines by that tag because thats a main topic of the article so i'm in a small mental dilemma over what to do!

   If you get into the higher functions in your AdSense account, you have some control over which ads can be served to your Hubs.  But of course, this only will apply when your affiliate code is on the pages, and not when the HubPages code is in effect.

      Do you mean like the filtering function? So I could literally keep the outsourcing tag since its relevant to my article but disable the outsourcing ads from showing. Because I want people to still find it based on that keyword but not condone the ad itself.

   My advice would be to place keywords close to each of the adsense units.  This is your best shot at getting closely targetted adverts.
   
   Remember that you are not just limited to Adsense, try placing some targetted Amaozn or eBay units, you might find greater success than you ever thought possible!

    Google will automatically scan your content and determine what they believe are the most relevant ads.
    
    So if you want better ads you need to target your content tightly.
    
    Google also uses IP Tracking and Cookies to determine Ads... so the above is not foolproof... meaning you do not see the same ads as your visitors.
