Dog Toting

   I have three Chihuahuas. One will go anywhere with me in any bag if she can. I love having "portable" dogs. I understand they're not for everybody. I love dogs of all sizes, but these fit my current lifestyle. (They are rescue dogs as well.)
   
   If I do choose to take one along with me, I feel self-conscious. I try to be very discreet.
   
   What are peoples' opinions on someone who totes their dog/pet with them? Crazy or just crazy for their pet?

      nothing wrong with it , if you can..but I can not do so with 100 plus pound boxers, they do not "tote" well..lmao

         Those are some good sized Boxers! I had one I rescued once and she was a totally cool dog. Unfortunately she developed inoperable cancer of the spine. We all still miss her.

   I always wonder how they're going to react when they find poop in their dog tote. Also, I find it to be kind of cruel since even small dogs shouldn't be confined to that small of a space. I bet their little legs get sore when they've been in the tote for hours and haven't had a chance to stretch out or run

      You bring up good points Alessia, but I assure you my dog has never pooped in her bag and I do not keep her in there for hours on end.  She actually curls up and sleeps because she just likes to be wherever I am.  If a walk is needed, I do so.
      
      I'm not recommending this for dogs that do not want to hang in a bag. This is about dogs that truly want to go with their owners.

   This query went nowhere fast. I appreciate Alessia's input, but I guess I need to put "dog loving sexy atheist" into my topic to get some interest.
   
   Anyone care to respond? Do you think people who carry their pets around are eccentric or simply people who enjoy having their dogs with them whenever possible?
   
   Fanatical PETA people need not respond. I think I can guess what your opinion would be.
   
   Hoping for some humor along with any serious thoughts...

   my honest opinion may not be very popular, but here it is.
   i do not own pets. in fact, my boyfriend and my son are both deathly afraid of dogs. depending on the dog and how well the owner controls the dog in public this could be an issue.
   a big issue for me, however, is the sanitary aspect.
   
   guide dogs are helpful for a great many disabled people. purse dogs are needlessly infecting places like, um, restaurants and grocery stores with GERMS. gross. i say, pets may have their place in some people's lives, but imo they should keep that pet at home. and honestly, how would you like to be carried around in a purse when you could be running free? i know my answer.
   
   but, people who leave their pets in their car while they go in the store are worse. AND people who get pets and leave them home ALL The time, never paying attention to them, are WORSE too.
   
   so it could be worse, but when i see people in safeway with a puppy, no matter how cute it is i always want to thank them for sharing those nasty germs with the produce section.

      I wouldn't take mine into a grocery store for sanitary reasons and out of respect for others. As for running around, my dogs do get time for that. They are small enough and content to be carried or they would "sound off" or try to get out of their bag.

   There is nothing wrong with being with your dog.  If the business allows it I see no reason not to be with them.

   I'm not personally a fan of it, but then I'm not personally a fan of dogs under 30 lbs...my current dog is the smallest one I've ever owned and she's a 42 lb Boxer/Lab mix (smaller than I thought she'd be by at least 10 lbs)

   As I said, I'm a fan of all breeds. My son definitely misses our boxer because he could "wrestle" with her.
   
   I don't have as much experience owning larger dogs. Our boxer could definitely outsmart me. She was a counter surfer and she trained us to hide our food in the microwave, etc.
   
   The small dogs fit our home and lifestyle now. We hope to do some RVing in the future and a huge dog might be too much for a small camper.
