Green Zone Bombed!

   According to yahoo, green zone failed to rake in a lot of money as they were expecting at the box office. thus, adding ANOTHER bomb to the series of movies based on the current war on terror.  in fact, even oscar winning, "the hurt locker", only made a total of 21 million.  thus, it looks like all movies based on the current iraq war aren't that financially successful.  anyone care to take a shot at....why?

      It's still a little raw due to the fact that the war is still being fought.  Most Americans are (justifiably) embarrassed that they were hoodwinked into stumbling into this mess by a lying administration, as we were in Vietnam.
      
      Given time to recover, films about this fiasco will do well at the box office.

         that's true.  plus international ticket sales are waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy worse than they are in the usa right now.  which makes me  highly skeptical on how well marvel's film, "Captain america" will do overseas as most countries hate  us right now.  lol.

            This is not my understanding of how people feel about America 'out here'. Most people see recent actions as an unwarranted attack on Iraq, they are not so sure about Afghanistan. Most of the other stuff nobody seems to care much about. The people from many countries that I meet here, and online, were horrified by the actions of Bush but confuse Obama with Osama when talking about US politics; as long is isn't Bush everything will be better I guess.
            
            Most people get on with and 'understand' American people; I personally find around half of those that are here are nice, decent, normally living people; the other half seem to be on some kind of crusade in defence of an illusory American way, on a religious mission to 'educate' the iggerant natives or just plain against something.
            
            However most Chinese and the whole range of people here liked 'Avatar' in 3D, most were disappointed in all the 2012 attempts.

               wow,  so glad to hear that even in china, they had common sense to know that 2012 royally sucked. personally, i think the director and writers of that film need to be dragged out onto the street and shot, so they'll NEVER make another disaster film again.  lol.

      I saw both of them! Hurt Locker won a few Oscars. It was a low budget film that actually gave an appreciation for what our soldiers are going through to bring freedom to Iraq. Sadly, too many Americans are focused on what free stuff the government should be giving them and care less about their freedom. I think Hurt Locker will turn out to be profitable. It's a great movie and one of a few that I have ever found to be memorable. The tension is extraordinary, so if you're going to the movies to relax, forget this picture!
      
      The Green Zone was a high budget film. I'm not sure why it cost so much to make. It was more about the so called bad intelligence about WMDs that was the justification for going to war. The movie makes the claim that everyone knew there weren't any weapons and we were purposely sending our troops on missions to search for them knowing they wouldn't find any just for show. Regardless of what you believe, that debate has passed long ago and the movie doesn't shed any new light on the subject. It's more of an opinion piece with similar action scenes filmed like in the Borne series. It wasn't that good and certainly not that memorable though you might find it entertaining while consuming a bag of popcorn.

   War movies usually don't do that well in general.  I'm surprised Green Zone isn't doing too well since it was marketed the same as the Bourne trilogy.  I actually think that the marketing is the reason that the film isn't doing too well: I didn't see much about it, and a lot of people don't even know what it is.  This, combined with average / below average word of mouth will likely keep the film in obscurity.  I think it will be lucky to break 40 million at this point.

   I suppose its because people don't want to be lectured at, they want evasion. Although I beg to differ -- I'm a war movie junkie, though I am not pro-war. I am also no stranger to paradoxes (apparently)
