What legal rights do we have as hubbers if our work is stolen?

   sweetsusie bug just informed me that she saw on of my hubs word for word on a blog what rights do I have on this?

      i had the same thing word for word my work was used on another site,i emailed the owner and asked him to remove it and left it 24 hours,no reply,i sent a stronger email saying i would take action if it was not removed,nothing,so i then googled how to take action against this kind of thing and got it removed,cant remember how but i know i found the answers on google.Dont stand for it

   You retain the copyright to your work, as is clearly states in the TOS for this site.  You have the right to pursue the matter however you wish, and in fact, it's your sole responsibility to do so.  Unless the infringement occurs on HubPages, admin can't do anything about it.
   
   I suggest you re-read the TOS so you understand how things work here, and pay a visit to one of the many Hubs that talks about what you can do in this situation.  Here's someplace to start,

   You need to contact the owner of the site, or the writer, or the hosting company of the website.
   
   You will also need to read up on DMCA.

   I wrote the owner or whoever he was from the site I found mine on, mine has been removed.  There are quite a few others though.  Wrylit was one of them, as well as DawnM and me.  It is a Hubber that is doing this.  I have written the nice folks at HubPages to inform them of the Hubber that did it.
   
   At first the person seemed to know they were stealing and changed a few words to the titles before pasting, I don't know everyone's work so I don't know all of those that were stolen.  It seemed that after a while she/he just didn't care anymore and took the whole article and title as well.
   
   I'm not sure if I'm allowed to put the link in here so other Hubbers can take a look and see if their work is on that site.

   Here is the link to the blog site of this thief.  Feel free to look around.  I was able to see that DawnM posted a comment on her stolen Hub, but it has been removed (the comment) the article is still there.

   If any of your work is on here go to the bottom of the page click contact us, and file a complaint.  They dealt with mine fairly swiftly and it was removed.  Some of the titles were changed at the beginning of the thievery so you may have some reading to do.  If anyone you know has an article on there, be sure to let them know so it can be removed. 
   
   As I said earlier, I have let HubPages know it is a fellow Hubber who is doing this.  Follow the links as I did and you will make the discovery on your own as well..  Well heck, it is samygirl that is doing it...  Don't know if I'm allowed to post that either.  But darn it!!  This just isn't right.

    Oh and one more thing, since my article has been removed I can no longer do this, I didn't think of it before.  But google adsense needs to be notified of copywrite infringement as well.

    that is the link for it that may be a guide.  I'm not sure is this person has applied for google adsense, but it stands to reason that they probably have since there are at least 3 sites they are posting on.

    Doing just a little more investigating... this person is also stealing videos... Oh my...  placing them on youtube as their own.  Wonder how they can continue to get away with it?

       Hi, I have just recieved the message at the top of a few hubs saying that they had been copied too! a couple were called  bwebcentral, but when I checked the whole site was taken down, and articleswap.biz. this also seems to be taken down. But the main one that made me blow a gasket was on Gather and the girls name is Montanna Cauble. She took it word for word and only changed the name from hubpages to Gather! so I would go to My Account and look down to see if hubpages has put a red c next to your work, you may just find your work under this little darling!!!

      interesting. I posted in a thread about that site because I have/had two hubs there. maybe they're down for maintenance?  I contacted someone from that site and received two automated responses the other day.
    they're sister sites and from what I could figure out, they distribute content to social bookmarking sites. the hub in question shows views from that site and other bookmarking sites in hub metrics.
    
    even before I checked the location of my hub, I found it at two other places. I think this also was from someone who is registered at HP.
    
    this kind of stuff has always happened, but unfortunately, I think we'll see it happen more often. they go straight to high scoring hubs .. relache has a helpful hub about what to do. http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/56866#post1278591

    Just fantastic.... Now I have someone from HubPages stealing my work...  Rookie70 has taken 2 of my Hubs copied the titles (added a 2 at the end for the url) and then the content?  ALL of the capsule titles are mine on one Hub and the other Hub most of them are mine. 
    
    I have written HubPages about this.  I am PISSED!!!  He wrote me an e-mail yesterday saying he was going to do this, I thought it was a joke so I didn't respond.
    
    Can someone please tell me why someone would want to do that?  Knowing the rules here on HubPages...  I mean really?  WHY?

    I've had similar experiences with short stories that I've published being plagiarized online. I wrote letters, threatened lawsuits, etc. but was always completely ignored. That's the trouble with the internet. Your stuff can be stolen so easily and most people probably never even find out.
    
    Sometimes the only satisfaction you can achieve (which isn't much) is that which comes from the knowledge that  you have talent, and the "thief" is just that. They wish they had your talent, but obviously don't. You're their hero, and they, your nemesis.

       Shahid, you are wrong in this.  The internet is not public domain, not in the U.S. at least.  There are laws against cyber piracy and copyright infringement.  Though it may be very difficult to track, the law still holds.  The way words and ideas are put together in writing is what is protected.

          I agree. Materials are readily accessible on the Web, that does not mean they are in the public domain. It is not a free-for-all. Those who want to can put their own works in the public domain or under a Creative Commons license.
