   Why is eating red meat bad for you?
   
   Just read a news article that suggested that eating any amount of red meat can increase your chances of disease and death. Am now a little bit concerned that I eat too much red meat, pork and bacon. Does anyone know some specifics about these new findings and why is red meat, beef, pork, bacon, etc, bad for you?

   Is it?  Don't believe everything you read from the tub thumpers, they tend to be very selective in their 'facts' in an attemptent to 'prove' their chosen argument.

      I agree with MickS: Studies are often poorly designed and the data often misinterpreted or incorrectly gathered. It's like the "holistic" people who go "all natural." Plutonium, arsenic, radon,  mercury, sea salt, sunshine--all naturally bad for you.

      there are many, many, many more studies. if you're truly interested, go to www.nlm.nih.gov. click on pubmed. type some of the following into the search engine: vegetarian, red meat and cancer, Mediterranean diet, saturated fats and atherosclerosis.

   it's not. all the things you hear about it are b.s. people claim it increases your chance of certain cancers but if you ask an actual researcher, they say they don't know what causes cancer for sure. eating just vegies will kill you unless you take vitamins and substitutes to go with it. the draw back to red meat these days is the chemicals they are fed to increase growth. eating red meat from a farmer that feeds his cattle naturally is as healthy as eating even the best foods. eating too much fish can be deadly though due to mercury in the water. that's one of the reasons it isn't recommended for pregnant women to consume fish. cathlynn99 has no idea what she is talking about.

      you can find lists of which fish are low in mercury easily with google. now we also know that red meat contains a chemical that is turned into TMAO in the gut. TMAO promotes inflammation, a precursor to many diseases.

      cathylynn99, what are your medical/scientific sources for your claims? You are dispensing medical advice without backup sources and (likely) with insufficient training to be doing so. Hopefully you have medical malpractice insurance.

   I know a man who lost about 100 lbs recently...AFTER changing his diet to include about EIGHT pounds of bacon per week...just saying...........
