Why is eating red meat bad for you?

Just read a news article that suggested that eating any amount of red meat can increase your chances of disease and death. Am now a little bit concerned that I eat too much red meat, pork and bacon. Does anyone know some specifics about these new findings and why is red meat, beef, pork, bacon, etc, bad for you?

    I agree with MickS: Studies are often poorly designed and the data often misinterpreted or incorrectly gathered. It's like the "holistic" people who go "all natural." Plutonium, arsenic, radon, mercury, sea salt, sunshine--all naturally bad for you.

    you can find lists of which fish are low in mercury easily with google. now we also know that red meat contains a chemical that is turned into TMAO in the gut. TMAO promotes inflammation, a precursor to many diseases.
