Drink lots of water every day - 6 to 8 glasses or more, and sip it slowly. (Yes, this actually reduces cholesterol!)

    Follow the Zone diet.

Eliminate trans fats and saturated fats from your diet.

Increase your HDL (good cholesterol, that removed placque, and reduce your LDL (bad cholesterol, that lays down placque) rather than avoiding cholesterol altogether.

Supplement with Omega 3, such as fish oil or krill oil.

Buy whole flax seed, grind it in a spice grinder, and sprinkle it onto cereal or in other raw foods. (2-3 tablespoons per day)

Avoid deep fried foods and oil that has been cooked a long time. If you can, use only raw oils.

Use organic coconut oil, virgin olive oil, and fresh nuts and seeds as your primary (or only) source of oil.

Eat oat bran. I like to make muffins out of it. It absorbs cholesterol out of the intestine. When I at 2 muffins a day along with a low fat diet I reduced my cholesterol by 30 points in a couple of months.

I had high cholesterol. Last week my doctor took me off my med., it went down! I have been eating a bowl of oatmeal everyday for the last two months. It helps a lot. I got this from a friend of my who swears by it. This did help me, but I am not sure if it works for everyone or not. But no harm trying it!

Anyone who thinks that eating animal fat increases cholesterol is either getting their information from the main-stream media or is going on what we "knew" back in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

Biochemistry has come a long way since Keys came up with his hypothesis that has us all believing that cholesterol level is directly tied to the consumption of fat (and animal fat in partifular) and we now know that it's eating sugar (esp sugar in the form of grain) which is causing the issue.

Read Gary Taubes book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" and you'll get access to all the research that has proven that if you cut your carb consumption, you'll crash your bad cholesterol levels while boosting your good cholesterol levels.

I reduced my cholesterol by eating oatmeal cereal, adding oat bran to home made indian style bread, by eating soluble fiber rich fruits and vegetables, adding fish and fish oil and eating alot of nuts.
