Why do people resort to suicide, is there anything that cannot be resolved?

It bugs me when I here that someone has committed suicide. How does someone let things get to a point of deciding wether they live and die?

As someone who has been touched by suicide by the recent death of my brother in law its very difficult to make any sense of their reasoning. Outwardly he seemed very happy and life was treating him well, six months after and there have still been no dark secrets to come forward.
We may never know what was going through his mind and quite possibly he may not have know either, someone who takes their own life could be considered as not of the right mind at the time of the event. As we know many things can trigger mental illness and many mentally ill people give the outward appearance of normality, we can only hope the same doesn't happen to ourselves.

The Irish (i believe) have a wonderful saying that i try and live by myself when things get really bad and that is "A fate worse than death is better than dying."

Depression can be insidious.  People who commit suicide are not necessarily rational and do not see any other way out.  It is easy for us to sit back and look at the facts and say - things will get better, it's not that bad.  We can see that it is a temporary situation and there is a way out....they do not see those things.

The person on the brink of suicide cannot see any way to resolve things.  What they are experiencing is horrendously painful and they feel they cannot face it even one more second. They do not see any way out.

    It is very tragic.

Some individuals are more emotional than others. Or they simply do not see another way out. It could be they are thinking only of the present and not the future, which is normal in young suicides. However, there are some older individuals who attempt suicide because they know what awaits them medically and do not wish to continue on in trials. However, taking your own life is one of the most insulting and horrific acts known.
