   Long term health risks of drinking a bottle of Tabasco a day?
   
   I've gotten in the habit of consuming a bottle of Tabasco sauce a day. Are there any health issues with this? Is the saying that if you eat too much spicy food you will get an ulcer true?

   what do you want as a result of drinking tabasco?
   what is motivating you to do this?
   What kind of feelings do you have when you drink it?
   is having an ulcer the worst thing you think might occur as a result of your behavior?
   what do you think would be the worst consequence?
   what do you think would be the best consequence?
   if you could see a photo of yourself drinking tabasco what would the caption say about that?
   have you ever thought about keeping a journal of these questions for a few days, see if you can learn the true reasons for these questions?

      I like the taste. Been doing most of my life, recently though I'm doing it more to avoid smoking because I'm trying to quit. There really isn't anything more psychological other than taste and good quitting technique.

      good for you for putting the tobacco down! aren't you concerned about the sodium content though?we only need 2500mg a day/theres over 4000mg in just 2oz of tabasco/don't want your heart to suffer/you know?

      That is a really good long term thought. I've always had low BP so I didn't even give that a thought. Thanks. That might make me look for another alternative. Might need to stick w/ my homemade low sodium kind.

      oh good then:) hang in there/letting your brain cycle through the 'gimme gimme' of nicotine isn't easy but it is most worthy! you will walk away from it and be strong!!!

   You commented on another answer that you've been consuming Tabasco most of your life, so I'd say no, you won't have any issues. If you had trouble with heartburn or an ulcer, eating lots of spicy foods might escalate the conditions, but if you don't, you're good. The capsaicin in peppers is actually good for you.
   
   Something else occurred to me, though. You're trying to quit smoking. As you smoke less, and eventually quit, your sense of smell and taste should improve. If you continue to consume large amounts of hot sauce, you might want to have your doctor check your sinuses and tongue, to make sure you don't have an underlying condition that makes you need the flavor of hot sauce to make food taste good.

      I had read that capsaicin was good for me, but like all things good for us I wondered if the lack of moderation may be an issue. I'm definitely use to consuming it though so hopefully not any issues. Thank you!

   This is a very intriguing question; and if you like, I would rather have you continue your diet and tell us once you experience effects of chronic exposure to high amounts of Tabasco.
   
   Kidding aside, you diet could cause you considerable stress in you GI tract, since massive amounts is considered and irritant in the linings of your mouth, esophagus, and stomach. This may lead to development (or worsening) of ulcers.
   
   Also, I'm not so sure about the Sodium content of Tabasco, but many food with chili flavor has increased amounts. So you should also consider its effects. You may be still young that's why you have not experienced much symptoms.
