MORMON ELDER HEALED

Updated on November 29, 2012

Our Church in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

When Sis. Ehsan Latif, our Egyptian sister left for Rome to be with her husband, who had been transferred there, she told Sis. Lynne Patch, our Canadian member the name of a person she had been preaching to and said that he seemed very interested in our church.

Sis. Lynne, a swimming instructor wanted me to accompany her to visit Leonardo Cervara, a Mormon elder who was paralysed as a result of a brain surgery, five and a half months ago. His daughter was a friend of Sis. Ehsan, a French teacher and she was very keen for us to continue preaching to this Mormon elder.

Sis. Lynne picked me up after work at the Old City Hall, Toronto and we drove from Toronto to Mississauga about 20 miles away. On the way, Sis. Lynne said that her car was low on gas and that we could buy some on the way. We prayed that we could get some gas on the way. However, we did not pass the gas station that Sis. Lynne was looking for and she kept saying, "We must pray that we can find a gas station on the way." Mile after mile passed and we still did not see the gas station that she wanted and as we drove, we kept praying to God to help us arrive safely in Mississauga. The gas tank showed it was empty.

Finally, we arrived at the home of Elder Leonardo Cervara where we were greeted by him and his daughter. Right after this, she completely disappeared from sight. Later speaking to Elder Leonardo we learnt he was the only one who believed in God. His wife was disappointed because God did not heal her husband and did not respond to her prayers. His daughter did not believe in God and his son-in-law was a Muslim. So we were left with him alone in the living room.

Before we prayed, I explained to him how he must believe in God, repent and ask for forgiveness before God would listen to his prayers. We normally kneel down in respect to pray to God. He said, "I'm sorry. I cannot kneel down to pray. When I kneel down, I cannot get up." I replied, "It is up to you whether you want to kneel down or not. However, both Sis. Lynne and I will kneel down to pray." We then started to pray. His left hand was clenched tightly into a fist. As we prayed, I opened my eyes and started to open his fingers one by one. It took some time for the fingers to open up. They were clenched so tightly. We continued praying until all the fingers were opened. I stopped the prayer and said, "In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, stand up."

Elder Cervara cried loudly, "I am sorry. I cannot stand up. It is because I do not have enough faith." He struggled to stand up. Straightway, the fingers on his left hands were clenched tightly again. My reply was, "Do you wish to try to pray again?" He replied, "Yes!"

We went down on our knees again to ask for help, "Lord, I

believe; Help thou mine unbelief" (Mark 9:24). We prayed more earnestly. When the prayer was stopped, I again said, "In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, stand up!" Immediately, he stood up and walked around the room. Elder Cervara was crying and laughing at the same time, "God is great! God is wonderful! He listens to our prayers."

His wife and daughter rushed into the room. There was much rejoicing! Elder Leonardo Cervara was healed and he was able to walk. God listens to the prayers of those who have faith and love "Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole." (Matthew 9:22).

Hallelujah! God is merciful and loving to every man on this earth.

"For there is no respect of persons with God." (Romans 2:11;

Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 3:25).

On the way home, we were able to find a gas station that Sis. Lynne wanted. We were extremely glad that God had granted our wish to fulfil God's will and Sis. Ehsan's concern for her friend's father. All glory to God.

Sis. Ehsan Latif was baptized on 5 July, 1980 and Sis. Lynne Patch was baptized on 6 July, 1981 with her daughter Stacey Patch. Hallelujah! The faith of both sisters and the faith of Elder Leonardo Cervara resulted in the miracle of Elder Cervara being able to walk.

Praise the Lord for His mercy and grace.
