Great and Memorable Mother’s Day Gift Suggestions
As May 9 is getting nearer, we recognize the most important individual in our life. Yes, our mothers have been there for us all our lives. Sometimes we get so used to her presence we simply take her for granted. When all those years, she was the one you run to when you had a quarrel with your best friend, she was the one who listened to your rants and raves when you were mad, who cajoled you out of your misery on your first break-up. Yes, she was there, the strength in all your undertakings. On hand for the words of wisdom for the confused mind, the encouraging words for the bruised heart and pride, an anchor to a wandering child.
Mother’s Day is celebrated just one day in three hundred and sixty-five days. But we all know they deserve more than just a day. Let us practice this annual Mother’s Day and at the same time, let us make changes in our lives in order that we can celebrate our very own mother’s day more than once in a year. No, it does not have to be expensive. It is just taking time out of our busy schedules to give her something she would really appreciate.
A Gift of Time 1– it is said that mothers spend about 3 hours in the morning just to finish her household chores before going off to her office to do her 9-5 job so do so something that will free her from some of the chores she has to do at home:
- Do her laundry and give her time to visit some friends.
- Clean up the house and plan a surprised get-together with her friends.
- Making the beds, ask your family to make sure everything is done so mom does not have to repeat or redo it.
- Making breakfast for the family, let mom wake up with everything prepared and it will give her a surprise.
- Ironing clothes
- Preparing meals for the family, maybe a dinner or lunch you and your brothers and sisters prepared.
- Helping with the homework, if you have younger siblings.
- Volunteer for chauffer work in her time.
A Gift of Time 2 – in these suggestions, you will give mom your own time as well as giving her something to look forward to.
- If your mom is a fulltime homebody, give her a day off. You will do all her chores at home and give her a choice of manicure, pedicure, and any spa package that you will pay for.
- If your mom loves gardening, help Mom with her garden, plant the flowers she has wanted for a long time or clean it up. Do it alone, or take along your children and make it a family gift. Then give her year-long schedule that says who among the family will be helping her with the garden every Saturday or Sunday.
- If your mom loves cooking, then share with her some new recipes but cook it yourself. Then, take her to dinner to a new restaurant she hasn’t been to dinner but features her favorite cuisine. Or, compile all her recipes and make a cookbook, and if you can, publish it and dedicate it to her
- If your mom has a hobby or crafts, do the chores for her on a weekend and give her a ticket to a new craft she can learn or for something she truly loves.
- If your mom is a homebody, give her time out of the house with your Dad or friends, and then proceed with the repair or renovation her house needs.
A Gift of Experience – we all know that there are some things our mothers want to experience in her life, something she might have wanted to do when she was younger but never got to do because she had to take care of the kids, something she has wanted to do because she kept putting it off have almost forgotten about it. Find out, ask your grandparents, her sisters, brothers, your dad, her friends and plan. You can find out if she wants to do it alone or have her husband or friends with her.

A Personal Recording – If you have a singing talent or any of the family members, then record your song/s for Mom.
An Autographed Book – Find the book that is on her wish list and have it autographed, you can get this ahead of time and yes, wait in line to get the autograph from the author.
There are so much more I can list here, and you can add to the list too. But remember, that you don’t have to wait for Mother’s Day to do these things. There comes a point in our mother’s lives that they yearn for our attention but can’t say it outright because we have been so busy complaining about our busy schedules. Let’s take the time to listen to them and get them something, not just buy them or ask your secretaries to buy them that will be more memorable for both of you. Keep more ideas in a file so anytime you need to get any family member a gift then you can just recycle the gift to fit the recipients’ personality and needs.
Mother images
One of the best poems describing the unconditional love of a mother
"A Mother's Love"
by Helen Steiner Rice
A Mother's love is something
that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendored miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.
