If you find yourself spending time in Downtown Mobile, Alabama, there is no shortage of great places to eat.
There are dozens of great eateries located within easy walking distance of the city's convention center and cruise ship terminal.
You're definitely in for a culinary treat when you have an opportunity to visit Alabama's Port City.
There are all types of restaurants in this beautiful southern city, ranging from sandwich shops where you can grab a quick bite to top notch upscale white tablecloth establishments.
The restaurants featured here fall somewhere between the two extremes, providing great food in a relaxed, casual dining atmosphere.
4 Favorite Casual Dining Restaurants in Downtown Mobile
1. Buck's Pizza
Buck's Pizza has great pizza, of course, but also offers many other great dishes. The menu at Buck's Pizza features has a terrific selection of chicken strips, chicken wings, pasta meals, salads, hoagies, and Strombolis. The restaurant's atmosphere is terrific, whether you sit inside the spacious casual dining room or if you are lucky enough to get one of the outdoor tables that comes with an excellent view of Dauphin Street and Cathedral Square. I love the Margherita Pizza here, as well as the Hot Garlic Wings.

2. Heroes Sports Bar & Grille
Heroes is a great casual sports bar that offers a wide selection of great meal items. There are televisions throughout the location, so you can catch a sporting event on the tube while you enjoy your lunch or dinner. The restaurant's menu features excellent burgers – including chili cheeseburgers – as well as many other tasty options. Heroes has great appetizer options, including a sampler platter that features fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, and hot wings. Other than the chili cheeseburger (which is at the very top my my list), myfavorite choices at Heroes are the Reuben sandwich and Shrimp Poboy.

3. Veet's Bar & Grill
Veet's Bar & Grill is a great casual restaurant/bar that offers a great selection of sandwiches, pizzas, fried seafood and chicken baskets, chicken wings, salads and appetizers. The fare is exactly what you would expect from a local bar and grill that's located just a block away from the waterfront. My favorites are the fried crab claws, hush puppies, and crab stuffed jalapeno poppers. The restaurant also features daily blue plate lunch specials. There is live music in the bar many evenings, so Veet's is actually a great place to enjoy an entire evening out.

4. Wintzell's Oyster House
The Downtown Mobile location of Wintzell's Oyster House is has been operating since 1938. It is the original location of the well known dining establishment that has many locations in the Deep South. Wintzell's boasts offering oysters prepared fried, stewed, or nude, and also has many other great seafood and southern specialty dishes on its menu. My favorite item at Wintzell's Oyster House is the Shrimp and Cheesy Grits with Creole Crawfish Sauce. Wintzell's fried and broiled seafood platters, crab claws, boiled shrimp and Key Lime pie are also awesome.
