Cheque Cashing UK

Updated on July 10, 2011

Do You make these cheque cashing mistakes?

Cheques are supposed to make our lives easier. Think about this for a moment. Let us suppose someone owes you £500. It could be an employer who is about to pay you your wages, or it could be a friend or relative who owes you the money.

Would you rather receive that money by cash or cheque?

We all love cash, but it isn’t always practical. Wouldn’t you prefer to play it safe and carry a cheque around with you all day? After all, having £500 in your back pocket isn’t that safe is it?

But sooner or later you need to think about cheque cashing. That’s easy if you have your own bank account, but not everyone does.

“How quickly can I get to my cash?”

Everyone who has a bank account knows that the bank has control over when a cheque of any kind clears to your account. It might show as being in your account, but it won’t be in your pocket until the bank has turned that cheque into cleared funds a few days later. This can lead to all kinds of problems if you aren’t prepared for it.

There is nothing more frustrating than seeing a balance of £500 – or any other sum of money – showing at the cash point, and realising that you can’t withdraw a penny of it!

Do you find cheque cashing easy?

Most people would say yes. If you have an account of your own, you probably won’t think twice about paying that cheque in. You’ll get a receipt for it, and that’s all there is to it.

But there are some problems that can occur when you have a cheque made out to you and you need to decide what to do with it. Here are some more things to consider.

“I can’t accept cheques as I don’t have a bank account.”

A lot of people think that if they don’t have an account, they can’t indulge in UK cheque cashing. But that is no longer true. You just need to know where to go and what to do.

There are a few outlets around today (such as Cash Converters) that allow you to use a cheque cashing service. So let’s go back to our example and see what you would do if someone gave you a cheque and you didn’t have a bank account.

In the past you would have been well and truly stuck. You can’t take that cheque to a bank because you don’t have an account with them. You would have been stuck with a crossed cheque that is essentially worth nothing!

But if you go for an independent UK cheque cashing service, all you do is hand in the cheque with any ID they request. They will charge a small fee for the service of course, but you will be walking back out with cash in your pocket instead of that piece of paper.

So don’t make the mistake of thinking you can’t accept a cheque or get the money when you really need to. There are always options available when it comes to cheque cashing – and once you know what they are you’ll never be left out of pocket or waiting again. get an idea of how one company does it, you can visit Cash Converters. They also provide UK Payday loans.
