In this hub as well as treating cuts and grazes, I'll also tell you how natural produce can help to make the skin healthier and less prone to damage by making it stronger. Healthy skin means a healthy body, so it's worth taking time to protect it.

Read on to find out how natural produce can help to protect and repair damaged skin.

Quince

Quince eases headaches, coughs, sore throats and insomnia. It's also a useful ingredient if you need to heal cracked and broken skin.

Avoid eating the seeds raw as they can irritate the stomach, but you can boil the seeds as well as the fruit in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. When cooled slightly you can drink the liquid for the ailments mentioned above, or apply the liquid directly to the skin to aid healing.

As well as healing properties, Quince also strenghtens the skin and makes it less prone to damage.

Adding Quince to the diet can also aid healthy skin.

Olives

Olives have astringent and antiseptic properties that makes the oil very useful for cuts, grazes and insect bites, especially if combined with Lavender.

Extra virgin Olive oil is renowned for it's healthy uses in cooking, but slighlty warmed and applied to damaged skin, the astringent and antiseptic qualities in Olive oil clean and protect the wound or bite from infection.

There are many varieties of Olives, and as well as being useful in recipes, they make a great healthy snack.

Allow it to cool and then soak a cloth in the liquid and apply directly to the wound.

Lavender

Lavender is one of the most powerful herbs and heals burns, cuts and grazes, soothes insect bites, helps you to relax and is an effective natural anti-depressant.

For healing cuts and grazes, boil a handful of Lavender flowers in a litre of water, allow the mixture to cool and then strain and dab onto the skin.

This liquid can also be used as a relaxing facial toner.

Soapwort

Before the invention of chemical soaps, Soapwort was used for washing the skin, hair and clothes. It's healing effects can be used for eczema, skin infections, acne, liver and kidney problems, and cuts.

Soak 10 grams of Soapwort flowers in a cup of hot water and leave to cool. Then apply it to the skin directly, or use on a compress.

Healthy Skin Heals Faster

Keeping skin strong and healthy means that cuts and grazes will heal faster than on skin that is neglected.

The skin is a strong yet delicate organ that performs dozens of functions and is an important part of health and vilality. The skin breathes for us, takes in nutrients and is damaged by chemicals. The skin provides protection for the internal organs from bacteria that could damage health. Skin is also one of the organs involved in excretion, so it helps get rid of waste.

Looking after your skin by moisturising it and drinking plenty of water is the first step in keeping it strong and healthy.

Thanks marisue. I'm a big believer in natural remedies and I totally agree about getting back to basics. Sometimes the most simple is the most effective.

It's great to have the natural options.
