Singing Bowl as the name indicates a bowl which produces musical sounds. They are widely used for Chakra Healing, Meditation and Feng Shui. Singing bowls therefore can be placed at spots in which chi doesn't flow or which lack light and yin energy. Singing Bowls are also known as Himalayan bowls. They are historically made in Nepal, China, Japan, India and Tibet out of which the Tibetan singing bowls are the best known.

Singing Bowls are said to clear bad chi and attract positive chi and improve vibrations in the house. Usage of singing bowls creates a state of yin and yang balance and improves harmony among the members in the family. Feng Shui Consultants use this tool for clearing spaces. This bowl is normally made of the 7 metal alloys consisting of gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, lead and zinc representing the planetary gods in Hinduism. The bowls are normally placed in a cloth cushion while using. The singing bowls are struck with the wooden mallet, and then rubbed around the rim with a playing mallet to produce beautiful singing sounds. In the beginning, the sound may come flat and harsh, but by practicing more the sound gets purer and stronger. These bowls are available in various sizes and are a perfect tool to cleanse the energies in the house apart from serving as a decoration article.

I had a Tibetan bell which could we made to produce a sound as you describe. I didn't know its use till I read your hub just now.

I think it fell while dusting and developed a crack and no music flowed. Next time I go to Delhi I'll buy a singing bowl from Tibetan stalls in Janpath.

Did you know that a similar sound can be produced with a wine glass. Wet the rim and run your index finger on it. Gradually the sound becomes louder.

Great information. I am very much into feng-shui and everything ancient and healing. It's time to get a bowl - I have bells but the bowls are beautiful to look at.

This is a great reminder for the next time I am in the right shop!

Thank you!

Surendraji : Thanks for the Visit. I did not know about the wine glass making musical sounds. You need to throw all clutter including chipped or broken articles.

Nilum : Thanks for the appreciation.

BkCreative : Yes, Tibetan Singing Bowls are really beautiful.I am happy that I could remind you.
