How to increase page views traffic using Delicious.com

Updated on August 1, 2012

I joined Hubpages about two months ago (May, 2012) out of my own curiosity of how I can write articles online and publish them. When I learnt later that one can also earn by writing these articles, it sounded even better. My first month here just like what I have read about other hubbers was not very rewarding, earning-wise, but I got thrilled to see my articles online and the fact that I can really do it.

Besides, I got a chance to meet with new people and I have made a number of friends here that I communicate with regularly even outside Hubpages. Hubpages has a wonderful community, always willing to help and get you started. I have been to other forums but Hubpages is a notch higher.

Seeing that you get more earnings by the number of views on your hubs, and of course other channels like clicks, I decided to do something about by page views. When I started, I would just write a hub, publish and sit back (outch!).

Soon, by reading more hubs here through hub hopping, I realized I needed to increase by hubs views and get those referral visits.

Social media was my first stop and although I have seen an increase in page views by sharing my hubs links on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and social news websites such as Digg and Reddit, it is discovery engines such as Stumbleupon and social bookmarking services such as Delicious.com that I have seen to significantly increase my page views.

Delicious.com which was formerly called del.icio.us, is a social bookmarking website where users can store, share and discover web bookmarks. It is one of the most popular social bookmarking services where users can tag their bookmarks with freely index terms. This collective nature of grouping bookmarks makes it possible to view bookmarks added by other users.

So, why should you bookmark your hubs on Delicious?

You will understand that not many websites will allow you to duplicate your articles on the web even if you wrote them, Hubpages is one of them and even Google does not like it, yet you need those page views.

Delicious.com allows you to import your hubs links so that web visitors can follow you all the way back to Hubpages where your original articles are. Users can also explore articles by categories or searching.

But that is not all, Delicious.com also allows users to group their links that have similar topics together to form a related group called a "Stack". The Stack consists of a title, description and its contents. The Stack can be “Followed”, “Shared” or “Liked” by other users.

All bookmarks posted to Delicious.com by default are publicly viewable, although users can mark specific bookmarks as private. The site is not focused on storing private bookmarks so it emphasizes much on the public bookmarks aspect.

If you write high quality, original articles, one aspect of Delicious.com that will suite you as a hubber is their “Popular” and “Recent” pages where your Stacks have a higher chance of visibility. A new Stack lands on the "Recent" page but if it is popular with visitors, it can be listed on the "Popular" page.

But the best of them all is their “Hotlist” Page on their Homepage. This section contains popular Stacks that have been picked by the Delicious.com staff. As you would expect, this is the first place where users land in so you expect more views.

One of my Stack titled [London Olympics 2012] was picked and listed on the “Hotlist” of the Staff Stack Picks.

To give you an overview of what you should expect, I joined Delicious.com a week ago and posted a total of 40 links. I then created 8 Stacks out of those links. One of my Stack titled [London Olympics 2012], with 6 links, was picked and listed on the “Hotlist” of their Staff Stack Picks list.

So far, my 8 Stacks have collected a total of 639 views in one week while two of the links; Salute your Country’s Team in the London Olympics 2012 and London Olympic Games 2012: 800m Women’s race preview are getting an average of 80 views per day.

The amount of time spent importing links and creating Stacks is worthy, to create a Stack of 5 links takes between 5-10 minutes. If you are looking for a way to increase page views by sharing links, I would suggest you try Delicious.com if you have not done so. You will not only increase your page views but you might also get those extra views that you are missing to make a constant monthly payout.

Updates on Delicious.com (July 22, 2012)

Delicious.com has announced the introduction of a Facebook connector just like the Twitter connector they had introduced earlier. This connector can be used by users to import links that have been shared by users on Facebook.

Delicious.com has also announced that from August, 2012, users will no longer be able to create stacks but tags. This action was taken to simplify how users organize links on Delicious by consolidating stacks into tags. All existing stacks will be converted into tags automatically. Stack-specific descriptions, categories, comments, link order, and stack followers will not be included as part of the migration.
