Some Facts
The mango is known as the 'king of fruit' throughout the world. The name 'mango' is derived from the Tamil word 'mangkay' or 'man-gay'. When the Portuguese traders settled in Western India they adopted the name as 'manga'.
Mangos originated in East India, Burma and the Andaman Islands bordering the Bay of Bengal. Around the 5th century B.C., Buddhist monks are believed to have introduced the mango to Malaysia and eastern Asia - legend has it that Buddha found tranquility and repose in a mango grove. Persian traders took the mango into the middle east and Africa, from there the Portuguese brought it to Brazil and the West Indies. Mango cultivars arrived in Florida in the 1830's and in California in the 1880's.
There are over 20 million metric tons of mangos grown throughout the tropical and sub-tropical world. The leading mango producer is India, with very little export as most are consumed within the country. Mexico and China compete for second place, followed by Pakistan and Indonesia. Thailand, Nigeria, Brazil, Philippines and Haiti follow in order.
Harvested in April and May, this "king of mangoes" has orange-yellow skin, smooth, fibreless flesh, and a distinctive, powerful aroma and flavour, with notes of almond, coconut, vanilla and citrus.
Finally the first legal shipment of Indian mangoes to the United States too, landed at New York's Kennedy International Airport on 27 April. I think its the right time to introduce some great mouth watering Indian mango recipes to the world!

I live in Thailand, and they have great mangoes here, but they're nothing like to mangoes we used to get imported as I was growing up in Canada. They're more elongated and a brighter yellow. Are Indian mongoes like this as well, or are they the rounder mangoes as pictured above?
is there anybody who knows the recipe of mango with eggs and syrup?? its so yummy but i don't remember what they call it and i don't know how to make it pls help me
The comment box moved on me. LOL I was here before but am leaving a note for you SunSeven. Is that picture of you? Some day I would really like to go to India. It makes me sad I have never been anywhere before. I wonder if the mango's I buy at H.E.B. in the next town over here in Texas taste like the mango's in India? Probably not. I heard that lavendar grows better in England than in Texas to. We do have some great mesquite trees and pear apple cactus. :)

Delicious! You know, SunSeven, one of the gifts I received for my wedding, was a chef friend who prepared a beautiful, Venezuelan Mango with Rice dish for the guests. I got a small taste and it was heavenly. I can't wait to try these lovely recipes!
