Major Festivals in the Philippines Part 2
In the article titled Major Festivals in the Philippines Part 1, a total of six festivals were featured this time around, another set will be on the plate to satiate your palate for mesmerizing festivals across the Philippines.
Kalanguya Festival and Town Fiesta
Sta. Fe, Nueva Ecija
Each year the Kalanguya tribe in the town of Sta. Fe, are gathered to celebrate their culture and traditions with ethnic songs, dances and rituals. The festivities here also highlight the ingenuity of the people with their mini-trade fairs. The festivity will run from March 11 tthrough 14.
Sikaran Festival
Baras, Rizal
It is not a form of kickboxing although it also involves kicking and use of grit and dexterity. The players in sikaran can move about just like the boxers with each one aims to subdue his foe by means of kicking his legs. As what the name it implies, which is “kick,” the use of feet here is significant to in order to become victorious in the combat. The festival will be held on 15.
Magallanes Festival
Guiuan, Eastern Samar
Unique as it is, the people here celebrate the festival to enjoy the bounties of nature such as robust marine life, abundant land and lush forest. This festival focuses more on thanking the Mother Nature for all the things she provides to the townsfolk here. The festival will be held on March 16.
Soli-Soli
San Francisco, Camotes Island Cebu
The San Francisco town in Cebu highlights a plant called the Soli-soli. This plant is versatile as it is employed for waving mat, bags, hats and other handicrafts to provide a source of income to the people here. Just like most of the other festivals in the country, the celebration here also features a freestyle street dancing but with a twist. The participants must use the soli-soli plant as the main material on their worn costumes. The festival is part of the feast of St. Joseph, the Worker. The festival will be celebrated on March 18.
Strawberry Festival
La Trinidad Benguet
The town of La Trinidad is proud of its achievement of owning a feat in the Guinness Books of World Record. The town owns the record for the biggest strawberry shortcake in the world. The Strawberry festival highlights the main product of the town which is the delicious strawberries. The festival runs a contest for the most unique product that has a touch of strawberry, which truly squeezes the creativity juices of the participants. Also lined up for the said celebration is the Agro Trade fair, various sports competition and marathon and many more.
Mt. Manunggal Climb
Balamban, Cebu
Held from March 19 to 20, a mountain hike to observe the death anniversary of President Ramon Magsaysay who was killed in a plane crash in the mountains of Manunggal.
