The Rarity and Popularity of the Yellow Diamond
Yellow diamonds are some of the most precious diamonds on the market today. They did not used to be so popular because they were thought to be inferior to others, but yellow diamonds are now becoming more and more desirable among jewelry lovers.
Popularity of Yellow Diamonds
There are several reasons why yellow diamonds have increased in popularity in recent years. For one thing, celebrities are beginning to wear yellow diamonds and photos of them are being shown in magazines and on television. The Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamonds are the most popular among many celebrities, but it is one of the rarest yellow diamonds. The most popular example of celebrities wearing yellow diamonds occurred recently when Boston Red Sox great Johnny Damon bought his new bride – Michelle Mangan – a yellow diamond engagement ring. The publicity she got for her yellow diamond made everybody take notice of this unique and lesser known jewel.
There are other celebrities who have been photographed wearing yellow diamonds. Kimberly Buffington, Dennis Quaid’s girlfriend, is one notable person who has been seen wearing yellow diamonds. Heidi Klum, Varonica Varekova and other women enjoy showing off their yellow jewels. Men are wearing yellow diamonds, too. You may never expect a hockey player to wear a yellow diamond, but Petr Nedved has been seen wearing these colored diamonds but you wouldn't dare make fun of him for it. Producer Rodney Jenkins and others have also shown off their yellow diamonds proudly to cameras. Celebrities have a tendency to sport the rare and the unique, so the yellow diamond is the perfect way to display their eccentricities and their disposable income at the same time.
Yellow Diamonds: Judging the Authenticity
Very few yellow diamonds are found in diamond mines. In fact, only about a tenth of one percent of yellow diamonds with a noticeable yellow color are actually mined. Many of the yellow diamonds you see at the jeweler are probably manufactured, but this makes them more affordable and more common for those who love the yellowish hue without the spending the green. Unless you get the manmade yellow diamonds checked by an expert, you may not even be able to tell the difference between the ones from the mines and the ones manufactured. Just do not try to test this theory by getting your girlfriend a manufactured engagement ring and passing it off as real or the yellow diamond may end up making you black and blue.
Famous Yellow Diamonds
The Tiffany Yellow is possibly the most well-known jewel in the yellow diamond family. According to reports, it was discovered at the De Beers Mine in South Africa in the mid-1870s. When it was found, it weighed more than 285 metric carats and it was the shade of canary yellow. In 1983, appraisers valued the Tiffany Yellow Diamond at about $12,000.00. However, without a thorough examination by a major gem appraising organization, the value of the Tiffany Yellow Diamond cannot be verified.
The Kimberly Octahedron Yellow Diamond is another popular yellow diamond and it was also discovered in South Africa around 1964. It is currently the largest yellow diamond ever found at 616 carats.
Prices of Yellow Diamonds
Yellow diamonds with the most intense color are typically the most expensive in the family of yellow diamonds. Depending on the clarity, cut and intensity of color, a yellow diamond that weighs just a quarter of a carat can cost as much as $10,000. One of the reasons yellow diamonds cost so much is because they are so rare. In fact, yellow diamonds are so rare that many professional jewelers have never even seen one in their stores. You may also be interested to know that about 30 percent of the world’s 100 largest diamonds are yellow diamonds, making them a valuable gem for the few people who can afford to buy them.
Uses for Yellow Diamonds
Yellow diamonds can be used for all types of jewelry so you can make your friends jealous. Bracelets and rings are great uses for yellow diamonds, however it may be difficult making earrings from yellow diamonds because finding a matching set is not always possible due to the rarity of these jewels. If that is not one of your concerns, earrings are a great way to show off your love of yellow diamonds.
A great use for the such diamond, of course, is using them as a gift for somebody. Since most people think of diamonds as clear, you might surprise someone by giving them a yellow diamond. It would make it even more significant to present it to your future spouse in an engagement ring. You can find diamond rings pretty easily, but to find one that is yellow, you might need to look around for a store that sells diamond engagement rings in different colors. Luckily, you can find a yellow diamond at Halo Engagement.
The yellow diamond is certainly one of the most valuable and unique gems in the entire world. If you are lucky enough to afford one, be savvy enough to make sure you are getting the real thing. Otherwise, the green you spend on a fake yellow diamond could give you the blues.
