Eating together as a family is important.

But, not everyone has the time to prepare elaborate meals. Even if you are busy, you still want to provide wholesome, nourishing meals for your family. With a little bit of planning and a stockpile of great recipes, it is possible to avoid eating out or filling your plates with processed, junky food.

Eating together helps families stay healthy.

There are a lot of benefits of having your family eat meals together. When your family shares a meal, you are opening up lines of communication. A family meal offers the opportunity to talk about the things everyone did during the day. It also allows your family to bond, share ideas, and make plans together.

When you eat together, parents have the opportunity to teach their children by example. No matter how many times you tell your children something, they will learn good habits a lot faster if they see you practicing them.

Your children, no matter their age, will also learn a lot by being involved in the meal planning, whether it includes setting the table, helping cook dinner, or clearing their own plates. Working together at mealtime helps you grow closer as a family.

There are also studies that show families who eat together have less occurences of teenage drinking and smoking. Simply by talking to your children during meals, consistently, seems to help them make better life decisions and allows parents to know what is going on in their children's lives.

It is sad that many families don't share even a single meal a day. You can sort out so many problems in that important family meeting. Stacie did a nice job in this hub.Cheers!

We don't have kids yet, but my husband and I eat dinner together almost every night (not if he's working or we have plans out). It is a great time to be together and talk about stuff that happened during the day. We will definitely make dinner time a special time for our children as well.

I agree, family eating provides the opportunity to comunicate and bond. It's something we should try to hold on to.
