Christmas stockings should be filled with things that make the recipient squeal with delight on Christmas morning. I appreciate "tradition" but I like creating my own traditions.

Stockings were always hung from my grandmother's quilt frame that was mounted to her living room ceiling. The frame was lowered and the stockings were hung and filled, then the frame would be raised back up so that everyone could walk into their house. As all the cousins grew taller they had to raise the frame. Otherwise someone was going to get some apples and oranges "up-side" their head.

My grandparents, aunt, and uncles all filled our stockings with fruit, nuts, and candy canes.

Once I had kids of my own and began my own traditions, I rarely put fruit or nuts in the candy canes. I wanted to fill them with other goodies.

Thanks for the tips! We have stuffed those stockings for years for our boys. Now that they are men, 35,33,29, they still are delighted when thy pull those stockings off the stairwell. Great hub and I'm sure a help to many who might not have thought of this.

You're welcome, Robert. I think stocking stuffer buying is my favorite part of Christmas shopping. Your kids never get too old for that kind of fun!

Great hub. My favorite part of Christmas is filling my son's stocking. I'm always looking for new ideas. He's a grown man now, but I still fill a stocking for him every year. I can't stop! :)

We love stockings, it's fun for me, buying little surprises and stuffing each person's stocking. My daughter enjoys her stocking more than anything else on Christmas morning. Thanks for more ideas!
