Celebration!

What A Wonderful Easter!

I think that this Easter weekend has been the best Easter that I can ever remember. Now I don't often write hubs specifically on religion but I decided to today since its Easter. I would like to share with you a few things. First off, I am a Catholic. I was born and raised Catholic my whole life and have explored many other religions, but have always come back to my roots.

Easter is the celebration in the church for the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who we believe died for our sins. Since this is the core of our belief as Catholics, I am very happy to celebrate this. The main purpose in me writing this hub, however, is not so much to discuss strict religious practices, but rather share my personal enjoyment of this year in particular.

As many of my followers know I am a very happily married man. My wife and I got married about 2 1/2 years ago and I became the proud stepfather of three wonderful teenagers. My wife is Southeast Asian as she is from Cambodia, and her lifetime religious experience was pretty much restricted to Buddhism. My family absolutely loves and adores my wife. She truly is a wonderful and loving person. She gets along very well with my mother and my two sisters and everybody enjoys her company.

After spending some time with my family at the beginning of our relationship, my wife was intrigued by the idea of Catholicism. She asked my mother a lot of questions and began attending church services on a regular basis. After meeting with the priest at our church, my wife decided she wanted to join the R.C.I.A. program (The Right of Christian Initiation for Adults) which prepared her to be able to make her sacraments in the church. After she is confirmed we will be able to have a sacramental marriage recognized by the church.

After about a year and a half in the program, my wife was Baptized, Confirmed, and made her First Communion during the Easter Vigil Mass last night. I am very proud of her. In fact, I purposely chose this topic when writing my 50th Hub Page. My children were baptized. Last year, but they made their first Communion last night as well. I am very proud and happy for all of them and their decision to become Christians.

Spring is in the air and Easter is a wonderful time of year to feel a sense of rebirth. Birds are chirping, flowers are growing, the trees are starting to look like trees again! This is a great opportunity for me to focus on our future. I enjoy attending mass each weekend with my family. As you can imagine, it's not always easy with teenagers. They don't always want to go to church and sometimes they get a little bit bored. I try to constantly remind them, however, that God obviously called them personally, which I truly believe.

My wife was raised during the Khmer Rouge, a horrible time in Cambodia when 2/5 of the population was murdered by a communist regime. She and her family were lucky to survive and to be able to come over to the United States when she was about 12 years old. Who would imagine that two people from totally opposite sides of the world would come together and share in such a beautiful relationship with each other, with our families, and now even in faith!

We spent the day at my mother's house and enjoyed all the great food that mom made! My mother hosts many of our family celebrations and we have a large family. At any given holiday there are at least 30 people who come. We always have a great time. I am a very lucky man to have such a wonderful wife and family. I thank God everyday for all the gifts He has given me and I look forward to praising Him in the future with my family. I hope all those out there who celebrate Easter enjoyed this holiday with friends and family.
