The Universal Language of Love (a contrived definition.)

Based on the definitions that are in the right column below, The Universal Language of Love, could be defined as:

A way to communicate ideas or feelings of strong affection or attraction, limitlessly.

But is that right?

I suppose that it could be, but I really don't know! Can the Universal Language of Love be defined? It's universal. So the very idea of being universal, is being limitless. Hmm...

A definition of Universal

"including or covering all or a whole collectively or distributively without limit or exception ; especially : available equitably to all members of a society"

universal. (2009).

What do other people think?

I first asked Ryan Hupfer (Hup), the marketing guru of HubPages the following question:

"Will you please define in simple terms and with no dictionary reference, the word, universal?"

His response was:

"having the ability of being applied to many different things, situations or people"

Pretty good, Ryan! Or at least I think so...

Then I asked Shirley Anderson, a professional content writer that is wonderfully accurate with her verbiage and also a great friend:

"Will you please tell me what language is, in an easy to understand manner?"

She said:

"language...hmmm, the first thing that comes to mind is.... a method of communication to relay ideas, concepts, feelings, etc.

a way to describe thoughts and feelings

bringing what's inside out and expressing it to someone else

a common method (verbal, written, language of love between people who speak different verbal languages - for example) of sharing meaning between two or more people

symbiotic communication between two or more people"

Hmm... Shirley didn't put "language of love" in bold -- I did. Why? Because I find it oddly interesting that she has those exact words in there without knowing what my hub was about other than language.

Next on my quest I thought that I should ask a woman who has recently been shot with Cupid's arrow: gamergirl about love. Look at what she said:

"Love, to me, has something of a jaded definition - as a divorced woman about to get married to the man of her dreams, I can honestly say that the person you first fall in love with may not be the one you're supposed to spend your life with.

At it's core, I define love as the connection you make with a person whereby you can look past their problems - be they physical or mental - and still give that wistful smile, get that twitter in your belly, that catch of breath."

Got it... wistful smile... twitter... catch of breath! Whew!!!

Note: gamergirl has also has come up with this wonderfully creative excercise for all of us writers, called "I love..." which we should all be participating in!!! :)

Hey gamergirl, when's that knot gettin' tied?

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Well there ya have it, folks! Webster's, Ryan's, Shirley's, gamergirl's and my little contrived attempt at defining and understanding the Universal Language of Love. You're welcome to define the Universal Language of Love as well... just leave your definition as a comment below.

Best wishes & Happy Valentine's Day!

Great LOVE quotes are below for your language-loving, universally (or at least world-wide) read, viewing pleasure!

A rose is a rose --- is a rose.

What's in a name? That
      which we call a rose
By any other name
      would smell as sweet

~ William Shakespeare,

Romeo and Juliet, 2.2

The quote is over... now it's me...

Whether you choose to call a rose a violet, an orchid or a daisy, it's still a rose.

I'm absolutely... positively... without an iota of doubt... sure that the same reasoning would apply to love

Elizabeth Barrett Browning - Don't you just LOVE her poetry?

How do I love thee?

Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth
and breadth and height
My soul can reach,
when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being
and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level
of everyday's
Most quiet need,
by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely,
as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely,
as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with a passion
put to use
In my old griefs,
and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love
I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,

---

I love thee
with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life!

---

and,

if God choose,

I shall but love thee
better after death.

~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How much can someone love another someone?

Hey there, hubby of Triplet Mom! Get her that $14,000 necklace. It's purty! :)

I think he should at least spring for the "One of a Kind 1 2/5ctw Fancy Yellow Radiant Cut Diamond Ring (VS2) 14k Gold" if he won't spring for the "11.50ct Round Graduate DIAMOND Platinum Tennis Necklace", right?

Best of luck with either, and even better luck with getting BOTH!!! :)

Wait, you had triplets for him... you need a third item too... you pick it and just tell him I SAID SO!!! :)

Thanks for the comment

and

Happy Valentines Day, Triplet Mom! :)
