   The internet is an infinitely expanding environment with a wide array of audience and purposes.  An initial step would be take a basic communication course at your local community college, though many may have to take a remedial course to learn the five step writing process and the five paragraph essay.  While many write on the internet without these skills, few write with the quality that comes from writing with the pre-writing contemplation of organizing thier ideas with great consideration of the topic, audience, or purpose of the communcation.
   
   For those that have already complete a standard basic communications course, an advanced rhetoric course sharpens and builds writing skills.

      Great ideas, diamond1mo. I see so many internet writers publishing their articles with a ton of errors. I know it's because they have not mastered the language yet. And, pointing people in the right direction will make it easier for them.

   I would suggest taking the same basic courses as you would for any type of writing, then find a critique group to work with. 
   
   I have learned as much or more from the writing group I belong to than I did from my writing courses.  I've also observed that internet publishing and traditional publishing are becoming very similar, so it follows that preparations for writing for both markets will be similar.

      I think I will look for a local writing group. I have tried the online writing groups, but they seem to be filled with more "attitude" than help. Obviously, I'm in the wrong groups.

   If you're willing to consider alternatives, you might take a look at the Yahoo! Style Guide. They have a number of articles on their website about writing for the web, and they have even published a book on the topic. You can simply search for the website or purchase the book over at Amazon.
   
   As for classes, I know quite a few colleges offer classes specifically on writing for the web. Some are offered in a traditional classroom, but many are offered online. A specific example would be Columbus State Community College (COMM 207, Writing for the Web).
