   How did you have your book published?
   
   For all those Hubbers who have published books how did you do it?  Did you get an agent?  Self publish?  e-book?

   My first four books were submitted directly to a publisher. Getting an Agent is super hard, anymore but there are alternatives for many folks. While looking for a agent, I recall reading an article about what a person hopes for their book. Ultimately, a writer wants great success but wanting and getting are always two different things. Although an Agent can help you get the most out of your work, they can also damage your work if they have a bad reputation in the business. Your best bet, is to do your homework on publishing. Really read everything you can about the business so you will have a clear understanding of what to expect and especially, what to avoid.

   As a heads up if you are interested in self publishing, Amazon has a site called Create Space. I have looked briefly but not gone forward with this idea as of yet. I share it here as another possible alternative...

   Ok, so I can't say I have it published, but instead of going through the hassle of finding an agent and investing money or whatever, I sent a 50 page sample of my work to some publishers in NY.  Granted, the chances of them wanting to see the rest of it are slim, since they most likely have to read thousands of such samples, but this is all I'm prepared to do at the moment.  I'm waiting 2-6 months for a reply, and then I'm going to break down and start looking for a reputable agent. Or I'll just delete the novel off my laptop and keep working 40+ hours a week. I'd rather not give up, though.

   I have two books published on CreateSpace and working on my third and fourth.  I love that site and learn a lot from it. I've also sold books from there on Amazon and it's a great way to self-publish.

   Thank you everyone!  I did end up using Createspace after trying for some time to find an agent, it is my first novel and I was completely unaware of how hard it is to get your work read.  I got my proof back and am now looking it over AGAIN ! As much as I would love some publisher come along and pay me thousands for my book I just don't see that happening this time around.  However, I will have it sold on Amazon through Createspace and Kindle and keep writing because I love it !! Thank you!

   I submitted them to publishers according to the guidelines provide online, or on one occassion I submitted a proposal and timeline for writing the book (non-fiction).

   I have done both things - helped my partner publish her book, and I have published an e-course. I am also working on two more books. When I approached publishers I learnt that most publishers (at least US publishers) expect writers to have an agent. Finding a good agent is very difficult. Then I explored self-publishing option. I had my partner's book published through Lulu.com and they were fabulous. I also explored other self-publishing option and I think authorhouse.com offer some good options, though they are expensive. They also own Random House, which is an advantage, because if your self-published book becomes successful, then Random House might re-publish it. This year, I intend to explore both options simultaneously - through a publisher as well as self-publishing. I will be exploring Create Space by Amazon too. They have the largest distribution network.
