Look around your home for a moment. Pay close attention to the shapes that you decorate with. I’m willing to be that somewhere in your home is something that is shaped like a heart. It is such a common shape that most of us don’t even think about how we use it in the decoration of our homes. With a little bit of conscious effort, though, the heart shape can have a lot of power in our home design.

Large Heart Shaped Statement Pieces

If you really want to make a statement in your home with heart shapes then you should select a really large item heart-shaped item to add to your personal space. The style of the item is irrelevant. Whether it’s modern or retro, chic or country-inspired, a huge heart-shaped item will be an attention-getter in your home. Some examples of the large items that come in heart shapes are:

o   Heart-shaped bathtubs. There are a lot of different cool bathtubs that you can get to make a big statement in your bathroom. Wooden tubs, leather tubs and glass tubs are all options. Make your bathtub bold by selecting a heart shape. A similar alternative is a heart-shaped whirlpool spa in the backyard.

o   Large heart-shaped mirrors. Mirrors come in all shapes and sizes. Choose a very large mirror in the shape of a heart and you’ll have an item in your home that gets a lot of oohs and aahs. It will also be a functional item, of course. It can add romance to your bathroom or a simple pop to your hallway. A bonus tip is to make sure that the placement of the mirror reflects something that you really love – a favorite photo, for example – to frame that item in the shape of a heart every day.

o   Heart-shaped furniture. Do you really want to do something bold with the shape of a heart in your home? Choose a unique piece of furniture in this shape. There are heart-shaped chairs and love seats as well as heart-shaped tables and headboards. This is definitely a bold piece. You wouldn’t get an entire furniture set shaped like a heart but a single item can be really beautiful in your home.

o   Large heart-shaped rugs. A big rug in the shape of a heart is a welcoming feature for any home. You can even make this type of rug yourself if you’re a crocheter or knitter. A heart-shaped rug in front of a fireplace is a really warm touch. A heart-shaped rug at the entry to a home really sets the tone of the space.

o   Heart wallpaper. Wallpaper has made a huge comeback in many homes in recent years. It is available in all different types of patterns including patterns with hearts. You may choose really large hearts or small repeating hearts for wallpaper based on the design that you personally prefer. This is a great choice for an accent wall, a hallway or a bathroom although it’s an option for any room of the home.

Small Heart-Shaped Home Accessories

Not everyone wants a huge heart-shaped bathtub or sofa in their homes. This is a bold shape that can be too dramatic for some people’s preferences. However. There are a lot of small accessories for the home that are available in the heart shape as well. Some popular heart-shaped accessories for adding a romantic or flirty allure to your home include:

o   Heart-shaped pillows.Decorative pillows are highly popular these days on sofas, beds, chairs and even on the floor. Heart-shaped pillows are fun and frivolous and bring a nice touch to any space.

o   Heart-shaped floating candles. If you want to increase the romance and femininity of your home then a few heart-shaped floating candles in a bathtub or a bowl of water would be a great way to create that sense.

o   Heart-shaped photo frames. Heart-shaped photo frames celebrate the love that you have for the people in the pictures in your home. You may choose a series of matching heart-shaped frames and create a collection of images in a single space in your home. Alternatively, you may choose a variety of different heart-shaped frames, using the shape to bring together a collection of different frame materials. Still another choice would be a single heart-shaped frame for a photo that is really very special to you.

o   Heart-shaped doilies. As granny chic has emerged as a home design trend, more and more people are starting to put vintage doilies back in their homes. Heart-shaped doilies add a nice touch to this budding trend.

o   Heart decals for the wall. Vinyl decals are a great way to bring a new design to your space without the type of commitment that wallpaper requires. Heart-shaped decals of all varieties are easily available online and in local stores.

o   Heart art. A very simple way to bring the power of the heart shape into your home is in the form of artwork. This can mean anything from very expensive fine art to abstract contemporary art to your child’s drawing of a heart hung on the refrigerator.

Some Notes on Heart Shapes in the Home

People who don’t have a lot of heart shapes in the home may be unsure about the touch that this adds to the space. They may think it’s too old-fashioned, kitschy, feminine or romantic to add hearts to the home. However, the great thing about hearts is that they are versatile and can say many different things in different spaces. The fabric that you select, the colors of hearts that you choose and the heart items themselves will all play a role in the message that the hearts send in your home. Have fun with hearts in your home.

Take a look around your home. What is one thing heart-shaped that is currently present in the space?
