    How to build a wood fence on a slant

    My yard has a slant and I just need to know tips on how to even the lats of wood on the slant

      I put a fence up to keep dogs and other critters out, so I jammed the bottom of the pickets into the ground about an inch. As for the boards I nailed them too, I nailed them to the posts two feet and four feet from the ground. Seemed to work out okay.

      If the slope is not too bad you can try to level the slope as much as possible.  Otherwise, try one of two two basic ways.  You can build the fence that is parallel to the slope or you can build the fence like steps along the slope.

      There are two ways to build a fence on a slope...you can either stair-step it, or rack it. 

      When you stair-step it up a hill, you raise each successive panel higher then the last. How much higher depends on the actual slope.

      When a fence is racked, the rails run parallel to the slope, but the pickets remain perpendicular to the sky.
