Can any candidate for the 2012 presidential election do anything to turn the U.S. around?

Or do you feel we are at the point of no return because of what G.W. Bush and his partners did?

The answer is no.  There isn't a President in our country that can do a thing, why, because it falls on Congress.  So until we put a limit on Congress, i.e. term on serving, we'll get the same results as we always get.  Our President isn't any less just a figure head than the Queen of England.  Sure he signs the bills, but if Congress doesn't want the bill, then he has nothing to sign.  Am I saying get rid of Congress?  No just no but hell no.  What we need to do is limit congress's serving time to ensure new people get into office with new and fresh ideas.

I believe that our economy can be saved through a number of ways.  First, we need a to overhaul our infrastructure on a larger scale than what the President just proposed.  Secondly, we need to seriously invest in alternative energy, namely wind, solar and hydroelectric.  Third, we need to legalize, tax and regulate marijuana.  Finally, we need to increase the minimum wage and institute a maximum wage and nationalize certain key industries to prevent a future collapse.  Unfortunately, no one currently in the race would do any of this, which is why I'm doing what I can to get Bernie Sanders to run by promoting petitions to draft him.

No.  One person cannot turn this country around.  One person can lead us and I hope he/she does in 2012.  But it takes Congress, the President and the Judicial Branch to turn this country around.  That's why the founding fathers made the three branches of government, so one person or one branch of government couldn't become so powerful and take over the government and the U.S. end up with a monarchy or a dictatorship or an oligarchy.

It really does take bipartianship to run a democracy such as ours.  As we can see and have found out, when we don't have bipartianship, we have a dysfunctional government.  So, will the congressmen and president get together or will we have rancor and divisiveness?  It will take everyone working together to turn this country around.  And that includes, "we, the people," also.

Everyone is awaiting a revolutionary-type of leader that will lead us into some "golden age"...unfortunately, in my lifetime I doubt such a person will appear.

No. Presidents have limited power. Congress is the first branch of the federal government, and ultimately it controls both the others.

Not even congress can turn the United States around, though. The national state, taken as both public and theoretically private institutions both of which are parts of it, has grown far too monstrous for reform. This train is destined to continue careening down its track until it runs off the cliff at the end of the line. The best any of us private citizens can do is our best to prepare for that. We cannot expect federal politicians to save this country. They cannot, and they would not if they could.
