   Rick Perry's chances were over a long time ago. It wouldn't matter if he skipped the rest of the primaries. The man is a solid conservative and an incredible Governor. Texas is one of the few states immune to the economic woes of the country, due largely to Perry's policies. But as a national candidate he just does not have it.
   
   I say, pack it in before he does damage to his re-election chances as Texas Governor.

   Perry hurt his campaign the first time that he showed up for a debate. There may not be much of a correlation between performing in public and effective leadership skills, but whether fair or not, if you come across as a bit of a moron when speaking in front of a crowd, you are in political trouble.

   He has limited resources. His views really don't mesh well with New Hampshire voters. He probably thought that it was Romney territory and concentrated on SC instead.

   I think his mannerisms remiond people too much of george W Bush. Also, his debating skills were somewhat limited and one gaffe too many resulted in people losing faith in him as a candidate. Romney, for all of his faults, hasn't made many mistakes during the debates and so hasn't damaged his chances. The conservtive vote is split between too many candidates for anyone to rival him despite his limited appeal to the party. If some of the candidates dropped out I think it could be a close run things with Romney vs the anti Romney vote. However, the other candidates often do "just" good enough to think that it's a good idea to stay in the race.

   Rick Perry hurt his campaign by opening his mouth.  For you non-Texans, you should be aware that the Governor of Texas isn't the one with the power.  We have a post-reconstruction constitution that severly limits the governor's power.  Our governors just smile, look good, and become Presidents.  It's when they become Presidents that they become dangerous, 'cause we'll elect anybody to be Governor of Texas.
   
   My favorite was named Jim Hogg.  His daughter was named Ima.  Ima Hogg.  Yes, we will elect anyone to be our governor.
   
   Then again, Californians picked Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwartzenegger.

   It certainly didn't help that he skipped it, but the reality is no one really knows him so I don't believe he was ever in the running anyway.

    Yes and no. He clearly isn't doing well, and if he doesn't pull a Huntsman in S. Carolina and do much better, his campaign is over. As many people have suggested, he acts too much like George W. Bush. I'm sure he is a great guy, but not presidential material.
    
    Besides it looks like the GOP REALLLY wants to see Mitt Romney get the nomination for whatever reason.

    It certainly appears that way. He comes across as a very "clumsy" politician and I think that has also hurt him. I expect he will end his campaign soon but we have to wait and see what happens next.
