Mostly by my aunt and uncle remaining at home for a while. My uncle is doing some hunting while my aunt is fuming. She's trying to keep her co-workers in good spirits and helping out two of the single parents as well.

EVERYONE is personally affect by the government shutdown.  Government influences every aspect of our life whether we are aware of it or not.  Everything trickles down.  When the Federal worker who was just about to buy my "Black Cats and Witches' Hats" vocabulary building software for her little 2nd grader to build reading skills, of course, she's going to say, "Well, we can't do that now, honey. Maybe next month we'll get you something."

When my brother-in-law in MN who served with the National Guard in Bosnia and then later TWICE in Iraq didn't receive his pay and is worried about losing his house, how can my husband and I not be affected by our brother's worry?

We have drifted a far, far way away from the popular song of the 60s
    "No Man Is An Island"

    No man is an island,
    No man stands alone,
Each man's joy is joy to me,
Each man's grief is my own.

    We need one another,
    So I will defend,
    Each man as my brother,
    Each man as my friend.

We are ALL affected and to not believe so is to be callous and cruel. What we need is more "harmony" as in your lovely name!

A few of my favorite trails and mountains that I visit are national property and they are shut down. So I will go visit the State-owned venues.  Can you image camping overnight at a National Park and being told you have to pack up and leave?
